Pre-Iday Ideas

How about Ocean City, MD. We are vacationing there AFTER I day - ouch, sore point with the plebe-to-be!!!

if you're looking for places to eat, Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington is the best place in the area. It's also right by the Pentagon

Someone's probably going to recommend Buddy's. Ignore them, especially regarding their seafood buffet.

Spend the couple days outside Annapolis, you'll get more than enough of the town and every single plebe family will be wandering main street.

Eat at Captian George's in Virginia Beach if you love all you can eat high quality seafood. It's a very nice restaurant. Enjoy!

Not far from The Yard. MMMM - Luv the fried pickles !!!

Five Guys, get the burger. Boatyard Bar and Grill (Eastport) for the crab dip and softshell crab sandwich. El Toro Bravo (Upper Main Street) for queso fundido and a Margarita that can make the Academy fun. If you like a good steak, go to Harry Browns in State Circle. Chick and Ruth's is a chain, and Annapolis has better than that. On Sunday, go to the Charthouse (Eastport) for the Brunch. It is a great deal for the food and service and the all you can handle Mimosas which lead to many fun Sundays in the Hall. Joss (Lower Main Street) is the best place for Sushi. Yin Yankee (City Dock) has a great beer selection.

I second five guys and Joss.
I'm a complete nut for sushi and Joss is probably one of the best sushi places i've been to. great selection of different types of food and very close and cozy atmosphere.

Oh and Captain George's
Best seafood buffet I had ever EVER been to.. And I've only been there once!

Take the tour at Arlington National Cemetery, see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Hit the museums around the National Mall -- but remember plebes usually go to the Holocaust Museum during the summer. The National Zoo and National Cathedral are fine places. My favorites: Arlington, Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, National Air & Space Museum, Natural History Museum

CaptMJ,

Thanks for the suggestions. We appreciate your faithful postings that help us newbies navigate in the dark.

I recommend the Boatyard for sunday brunch over the Charthouse. Unfourtounatly no bottomless mamosas there though.

Some more thoughts... the Marine Museum down at Quantico, just down I-95 from the DC Beltway, is a good excursion. http://www.usmcmuseum.com/index.asp

Ocean City, MD/Rehoboth Beach, DE, are both nice day jaunts over to the Eastern Shore for time at the beaches and chowing down on boardwalk food. Fries! Crabcakes! Saltwater taffy! (must be time for lunch ...)

New places and experiences will keep the plebe anxiety factor under control. Enjoy Annapolis together when you're back for a weekend visiting your plebe and sample all the great places to eat around the area.
