Can anyone tell me if being placed on the NWL is a bad thing? Also, I received correspondence from WP saying that my file has been "qualified by WP Admissions"does this mean that I'm 3Q'd? Adding to that, I received 2 nominations and apparently I'm the principle nominee for both (since there's a #1 after the abbreviation of the MOC's name. And one of my nominations is reserved for only one person of my territory, happens to be me.) Does this hinder my chances of being admitted to USMAPS? Is it possible that WP has to offer admission (because of the Principle nominee thing, and the qualified correspondence)? Pardon the mush of questions, I'm just REALLY motivated to receive admission, since it's been my dream for a really long time.

If you are 3q, and have a principal nomination, it is my understanding you will be at usma next year, not prep. Others way more knowledgeable than me will respond, and that info will be more reliable, but I think you are headed to WP, not prep.

...and nwl isn't bad, it just is a second chance at admission. You shouldn't need that though with the principal nomination.

Thank you for your answer. Any help is appreciated at this point.
So.. receiving correspondence from west Point Saying "Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2016" is a good thing?

It sounds like you will be receiving an appointment to USMA not MAPS.. did you want to attend prep school?

Felix -- several things going on here and need some clarity before can fully answer:

Typically being placed on the NWL means you are considered 3Q, but were not a principle nom or #1 off of your MOC's slate and you'd be "in the pool" of about 1700 other candidates vying for one of approximately 350-500 slots. Being on the NWL is great but not as good as having a principle nom. How do you know you are on the NWL?

Not sure. Other 3Q letters I have seen said something like "You are medically qualified and you are qualified academically and in physical aptitude." Are those words in your letter?

Are you sure you are the principle nom? Did you get a phone call from your MOC or a letter from your MOC saying you were the principle nom? What is the number designator of your congressional district? Is it #1? What is confusing to me is I don't see why you would be be told you are on the NWL if you are the principle nom.

Typically your academic credentials (or recruited athlete status) determines whether you would be offered Prep School. If they want you, but your GPA or SAT/ACT scores are low, you might be offered Prep School to bring those scores up.

The reason I wanted to attend Prep is to brush up a little more on my Academics before taking on the push of full blown WP. Anyways, the whole idea of Prep- is getting admitted to WP, so if I manage to go in directly then GREAT!

The only reason that I'm kinda worried is because my SAT wasn't as hot as it should've been. So I thought that I would've entered prep first. (I'm from PR btw. we don't usually take the SAT, so its a pretty big challenge to obtain 500+ on each section).

WP is my DREAM, so any chance of getting admitted is good enough for me.

I'm in the same boat.. my school's academics aren't as great as other schools (our only AP class is English). I took chemistry and physics my sophomore year and calculus last year, so this year I have to take college classes but most of those are social sciences and Englishs. The only way to be admitted to Prep is to be academically disqualified though, so I will see you on R-Day!

Principal nominees are not designated on the portal by a #1 follow the MOC's name. Generally and #1 or #2 designates if you got your nomination from the senior senator (#1) or the junior senator (#2) in your state. When my son got his nomination from his senator, it had the #1 following it. Our son was NOT the Principal nominee.

The thing is, that I'm from Puerto Rico. PR does not belong to a certain district, but the Resident Commissioner has the right to nominate a few candidates for WP. I obtained a nomination from the Resident Commissioner with a #1 beside the abbreviation.
Also, the Governor of Puerto Rico has the ability to nominate ONLY ONE candidate from PR. I recieved his nomination, so I'm the only candidate in PR to have his nomination, that's why I'm considered a principle nominee.

I discovered that im on the NWL by a correspondence on my profile from WP Admissions.

Did you get admission already? I'm lucky to be in a pretty good school, cause public schools in PR aren't really academically superior, compared to schools in other Territories. Also, we don't typically speak English in PR, educations mostly in Spanish, so that adds to the already up-hill challenge of getting admitted to Ivy-Leagues ( or in this case a SA). Aye, I hope to see you there! We definitely deserve it!
    GO ARMY!!
    (Did you go to SLE?)

OK -- got it -- I'm not as well versed in these intricacies -- not doubt there are nuances in the laws affecting appointments from US territories -- I've learned something -- thanks. Sounds to me like you are on the NWL (as opposed to being appointed a MOC principle nom or being #1 off of a MOC slate). The nominations you have received from PR will no doubt be a great assistance in gaining an appointment or an offer for Prep School.

This is a commonly misunderstood notion.
Being on the NWL means that you are 3Q'd. Period. P-noms and Slate winners are on the NWL when they are 3Q'd - and then taken off when the P-nom comes in or when they win the slate.

Thank you for your answer. So, does "We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2016." technically mean that I'm 3Q'd?
