There were ten scholarships nationwide for the early board. I am not sure about the number for this next board, but I believe it's in the neighborhood of 100-150 total nationwide. Maybe @NavyNOLA knows?
My daughter was awarded a the scholarship at the early board. She is a freshman at a SMC. The Marine Colonel from OCS was at her school for a speech and when my daughter's scholarship was announced the Colonel said there were only ten awarded nationwide.
I don't think it's anywhere near 400-500. A low number on the first board makes sense. They are only going to award them to folks that are soooo good that they'll get a scholarship on the second board anyway. Otherwise, it's better for them to wait and see what the entire pool looks like. At least that's how I heard someone explain it all to me once upon a time.My daughter was awarded a the scholarship at the early board. She is a freshman at a SMC. That's insane. I thought the USMC was allowed to award 400-500 Scholarships per year(between the early and regular Boards). If that's the case, then I guess a whole lot of people are getting it on the main board. If that's not the case, then I was severely lied to about 400-500 scholarships per year lol. Which Marine Corps District are you in?(I am in the 1st)
It is the smallest branch, therefore fewer officers needed each year. The early board is very small, with most scholarships being awarded on the second board. As I said I do not know the numbers but it is nowhere near 500.
Only information I have is from 2015, and it is for total Scholarship in the program.
2015
Scholarship - 872
College Program - 483
MECEP - 193 (Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program)
So the scholarships awards would be more in the 200 range.

Are you sure you won't consider Army ROTC as a Plan C?Only information I have is from 2015, and it is for total Scholarship in the program.

Okk, thank you for that
Lot's of Marine officers come from PLC

I think the facts are getting twisted here.
EOD/SEALmom - didn't your DD get the scholarship as a freshman? The number of college freshmen who get a 4 year scholarship is probably very low. Ten may be correct.
The number of scholarships awarded on the first board to high school seniors is much higher.
