I know that the items we need for the Academy are listed in the Logging In book, but I am confused as to what is totally necessary to bring to Indoc, and what would be best to have sent to us after Indoc. Or possibly maybe the list in the logging in book is exactly what we need to bring.

Thanks in advance, this forum has helped me prepare greatly!

The list in the logging in instruction is EXACTLY what you need to bring. There are some additional things that can be "nice to have" in the future or possibly during Indoc, but you will do just fine if you bring what is listed.

If you look around some of the older threads on here you will see many that address some additional items that may be nice, but in reality all you need is what is listed.

you can, but i wouldnt. you don't need advil/tylenol for Indoc. its not hard, I made it through without sick-chitting and staying under the radar. If you really need that stuff, Patten will provide it. just wait till the school year starts and you'll feel the challenge of the academics, thats when it gets tough.

As far as what to bring, I would suggest a fan, just in case you get stuck in 2nd or band co, since there is no AC. 1st, 3rd, and 4th you dont have to worry too much about the heat.

So a bathing suit is not on the list so do we get that issued to us? Hey btw I got everything on the list plus a few extras into one duffel bag with room to spare. I packed all of the clothing items in space bags which helped a lot. If you're running short on room might not be a bad idea to invest in 1 or 2. only ways around 37 lbs. too

Do not bring Tylenol/Advil or any other medications, including vitamins to Indoc. They are not allowed and will be taken from your possession.

As to the other stuff. If it's not on the list you don't need it. I promise you, they've been doing this longer than most of us have been alive.

    What to Bring

The class of 2013 was not issued running shoes at any time during the year. My DS made it until recognition with the pair of running shoes that he took to indoc, but I'm sure he might have made use of a second pair if they had been available. So, a second pair might be a nice thing to send in a care package. Also, since swimsuits were not issued until after the academic year began, the mesh shorts were worn as swimwear. Last year was kind of strange in that the ringer t-shirts, PT shorts, and swimsuits were not issued until some time after indoc. I think females might have been issued swimsuits for indoc, but I'm not sure. Gold bond powder was one of the few extra items that DS took with him to indoc.

Personal hygiene items and toiletries they would normally use. Send them with Sun Screen too!
It's been brutally hot and humid in the NYC area over the last few weeks. Today has been the first day with any real break in the heat and humidity so baby powder or gold bond powder would be good as well. The weather can be oppressive here in July so these small things may give them some creature comforts.

    what to bring

Big suggestion moms and dads and friends out there. Create your own version of the instant letter in the loggin book. I listed yes or no questions re: missing or not missing our ds's favorite places, people, foods and asked some questions about various events at KP. I gradually added questions such as "I love my DI" yes, no, maybe--all in good humor and jest. The letters were answered by my ds, and mailed back to us in a preaddressed, prestamped envelope. His responses were exceptionally positive. He was prepared for indoc. Make sure your ds or dd comes completely rehydrated. I can't express that enough. Moms and dads I remember my excitement, anxiousness, and pride. Your daughters and sons are exceptional people. Being humble will go a long way with getting along. Our son is going to sea soon, after 2 delays. We are excited for him. A huge adventure most people in the world will never experience. Hang in there, you raised them well or they wouldn't be at KP, trust they will remember all they were taught and then some, and LET YOUR KIDS GO.
