Question's and answers that might help

No other SA offers the variety of options that USMMA does. That, combined with the alumni network put KP head and shoulders above the other SAs.

Only CGA alumni actually think that.
He's at KP and happy to be there. So he figured it out.

I hate to pile on to the doubts I’ve mentioned but taking “Calc I or II” at your local community college isn’t necessarily a given - at the exact semester a student needs it. Maybe they couldn’t get into the class they needed? Most colleges have a placement exam. They dictate which class you start with. So if the setback students have one semester to get it done, it may not be enough time if they need to start at a pre-Calc/lower level. IMO, I’m skeptical about how accurate these placement tests are and wonder if they are part of the college money grab (I sound like such a cynic!) but they are what they are. Yes, you can try to get an exception to take a higher level class than what you tested into but it’s never a guarantee & for some colleges it’s black & white (no exceptions).
I was able to get self paced online courses through straighterline approved for my setback. For the most part if you WANT to go back, and are willing to look around and exhaust all options, they will see that and work with you.

I’m glad you provided this info! I’m in higher ed - so I definitely overthink these things. Hope things are going well for you!

I heard the same, that being setback has some pretty negative consequences, maybe why many don’t return?!
The biggest issues I could foresee hindering a setback from coming back is the financial side of things, and the idea of three extra months of everything that comes with being a Plebe. I had to get a full time job and find alternative means of taking classes (read: expensive). They also require you to buy about $300 of “how to manage your time well!” And “how to study” self help courses.

Would they pass out of Calc or retake all the same classes. I heard not many return, after a setback. Is that true? That’s what a plebe said on a USMMA Zoom call…..only a small percentage return.
I don't know how reliable data would be from a plebe on this topic. They kind of live in their own world, I would bet many plebes being setback, say screw this, I'm not coming back, in the heat of the moment, but then come back. I would guess that feedback from a plebe is based on kids saying they aren't coming back. Knowing what I know about the culture and to KPengineer's comments above, the upperclassmen that are there don't care if you are a setback, they know, but don't care. So how would a plebe realistically know how many seniors in their company were setbacks. I'd be surprised if plebes truly their finger on the pulse of actual setback data.

They would NOT have to take classes they have already passed.

So you are dealing with all of that, but plan to come back? If I understand correctly are you currently in a setback period? If so, really appreciate your insight, no more valuable opinion here than yours if I am not missing something.

Yes to both haha. I’m too stubborn not to go back! I failed calc and chem because I was having a little too much fun and not doing enough studying.

We don’t have to take classes we passed at the academy already. “At the academy” being the key phrase here. My contract states I’m no longer eligible to exempt out of the classes I failed and I can’t fail anything else the first two tris of my “plebe year 2.0” as I’ve been affectionately referring to it as

It was a Zoom call set up by USMMA that had a few hundred interested students and families on it. The call was set up through admissions.

To what outcome? Quality over quantity.
The post I responded to said that USNA folks look down on USMMA. I don't since I believe that my classmates have done a great job leading USMMA.

I can answer numbers 2 and 7.

2: Like everyone else, I got my appointment in the mail through FedEx.

7: I can only assume that my cfa scores were pretty close to the minimum. So if you have scores higher than what I got you should be good. Here are my scores:

B throw: 55 feet
Pull-ups: 1
Shuttle Run: 10.0
Sit-ups: 70
Push-ups: 50
Mile run: 7:19

Hope this helps.

Yea no I literally got 42 feet bb throw, like a 17 sec hang, 10.0 sec shuttle, 60 sit ups 30 push ups and 8 min mile and passed somehow.

I gathered up a few questions that were asked more than once. If you don't have an exact answer please give your experiences. If you have any more questions add them to the list

1. How are you notified of the LOA?
2. How are you notified of the appointment?
3. How are you notified if you are wait-listed?
4. How are you notified, if you don't get in?
5. Where is the portal everyone is talking about with updated application status?
6. Is being an athlete at KP going to make the 1st year more difficult than it has to be?
7. USMMA CFA mins.?
8. ACT min. Score
9. SCT min Score
10. How do you know if you are academically disqualified?
Honestly I'm not too sure how I passed the CFA considering many of mine are below average for the rubic for women...
-38 bb throw
-2 pullups
-11 sec shuttle run
-71 situps
-48 pushups
-7 min run

Hey I'm new and I was wondering about JROTC. I'm currently a junior and just learned about the service academys. I'm biting myself because I haven't participated in JROTC or NJROTC, and my school doesn't offer either. I can do JROTC next year as senior, but it's a 30 min drive without traffic. I'm more than willing to make the drive. I also have school sports to maintain. Is it worth to start as a senior or not at all because of the application deadline?

My DS did not do ROTC in high-school at all and was accepted. Definitely not a requirement. Could be helpful as a bullet point on the resume and might help with the leadership skills. But I'm a firm believer that they look at the "whole" candidate when reviewing applications. Grades, test scores, fitness, medical, sports, leadership. For a better picture, my DS was the captain of his HS swim team, he was not recruited for swimming and no longer swims. He worked part time as a supervisor where he led a team of peers, some older than him, he did 1 year of marching band. He had great references and grades. Service academies want a variety of qualified candidates. It's always stressful, but you can only submit your best self through the application process. Good luck, and no matter what the outcome is, you will do great things in life.

You might want to see if there is a Civil Air Patrol squadron closer to you. It is a similar program as JROTC and might be less of a time commitment starting out than JROTC.

Definitely not worth it at this point. If you join your senior year, you will be too new to hold a leadership position. Your time will be better spent concentrating on academics, sports, and other leadership opportunities. Good luck.
