Questions Thread

"Hehehehe I already stick out because...never mind. Staying off the radar might be a challenge "
Just to put this into perspective-- I just moved to china, I am a five foot ten inch tall white girl with blonde hair. I can guarantee you that no one at WP will go up to you and ask to take your picture, or rub your skin to see if any makeup comes off, or touch your hair to see if its real. (and to be frank stare at any other part of your anatomy thats usually a bit bigger than the asian norm!)

not trying to complain here but this is a touchy topic with expats living in exotic places!
but as for a positive, being different may be good for you-- many of the people who go to SAs that I know say that sometime during your time there you will have an identity crisis and you will freakout about the sameness you feel around you, I mean the same hair the same style of talking the same uniform, top that with the pressure of academics, your probably going to have a weak moment-- maybe it will be good for you to always know your the short one! As for me, I can always get a taxi!! ;)

oh, and sorry to bring this in a whole different direction-- just read all the way through the thread.

Is the work load is really as bad as everyone makes it out to be? I realize that there will be exaggeration in any story, but 4 hours of study a night not cutting it?

I can't comment on the academics, but I do know that cadets do have required sports and other duties that may affect their time.

I was reviewing through the thread and was wondering what areas of the campus are designated as "cadet only"?

This question is a bit off topic but is has been bothering me for days, and Google is being very uncooperative.

On the USMA website it said that one of the extra curricular activities it is interested in for applicants is Civil Air Patrol. Now from what I've read this is a volunteer auxiliary section of the Air Force. So I don't mind that, but then I read about Army Cadet Corps, and wouldn't that be even better? I haven't found any reference to the Army Cadet Corps helping you get into West Point, but it makes more sense that they would prefer ACC over CAP. Am I wrong?

I'm wondering this as well. If it's true, I'm at least accustomed to heavy workloads. I've always had a lot of homework throughout high school.

I also have a question about class exemptions. I scored a 5 on my AP Psychology test. Is Psychology a required class at West Point? If one received a 5 on the AP exam can one take another class in its place? What kind of classes can be taken instead?

It is not an exaggeration. Sure, there will be some light days especially if you work ahead on weekends but 4 hours is not enough on average.

You cannot validate Psychology since the Psychology class at USMA focuses on Psychology applied to the Army and is not just a standard Psychology class.

Do cadets usually go to the Army football games on the weekends? I'm definitely interesting in going to the football games if plebes are permitted and have time to do so.

Actually, I think it's required for cadets to go to all home football games

All cadets go unless they're on punishment tours. It's not an option.

How far away from West Point do the off-base privileges extended? (in miles or hours) Thanks!

Well me personally there are no Army Cadet groups near me so I joined C.A.P.
Still has a lot of leadership involved with it, which is liked by the SA's.

I think that any cadet group would help you as long as you achieve things through it.

Psychology class

@abeastlybeast
A 5 on the Psychology AP should get you into the advanced psych class. If you find yourself scheduled in the regular, be sure to approach the department and point out your AP score - sometimes there is a miscommunication and they put you in the wrong one. This happened to my DS and he was moved into the advanced, which he enjoyed very much :)
