Questions Thread

I have a question: What happens if you get a D in an AP class? Do they rescind your appointment?

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before?

I know I am probably just trying to get my hopes up for nothing, but does West Point ever accept a person that applied for SLS and was denied acceptance at first?

Me. I applied to the 2010 USNA and USMA SS's, and got rejected from both. I now have an Appointment to both USNA and USMA :)

What is a typical morning like during CBT?
What time do cadets wake up?
What kind of PT is done in the morning?
What kind of meals are distributed?
Where do cadets sleep?

Assuming that all of the above questions are about Beast:

Typical morning involves a 0500 wakeup, being out on the wall at 0505 in PT's w/camelback and running belt. Then, everyone forms up on the Apron at 0515, and waits for what seems like ages for the cannon to go off and flag to go up. Then, the regiment splits up. Half of the New Cadet companies run down to South dock to do MSE circuits (muscular strength & endurance - pullups, situps, ankles to the bar, dips, etc), while the other half run a quarter mile to Clinton field, perform warm-up exercises, and go on a run with their run groups. The run groups and the MSE groups will swap, each one going every other day except Sunday.

Typically, breakfast is eaten in the mess hall, but depending on the training schedule, New Cadets also will have MRE's, boxed lunches (sandwich n such), or mermites.

During the summer, NC's stay in Brad Long, Brad Short, and Ike Barracks on Central Area.

So cadets alternate between calisthenics and running? Cadets don't run everyday?

Dumb question here.

On my overnight, some cadets (male and female) told me that CBT used open bay showers. Does this vary by barracks?

Just looking for a heads up so I can mentally steel myself. Ironic how I don't mind heights, or bugs ect. but nudity scares the crap out of me

I have yet to see male showers with individual stalls

Are you for real? Does "nudity" literally scare you? As a cadet, you can take a shower whenever you want. If for some reason taking a shower with another dude is uncomfortable, just take one in the early evening or late evening. Or whenever in the day. I take showers really late at night and I almost never come across anyone

He was asking specifically about CBT.

To answer the original question: Yes, open showers are used during Beast and you won't have the luxury of showing during "off hours" that you will normally have during the academic year. The division barracks have individual showers but they will not be used during Beast.

IMO you should face your fears. :thumb:

Can I just use my Bates low quarters that I had in JROTC as the shoes I am supposed to buy?

America's Finest: Thanks. I should have included that I am a female, my bad. Would this apply to females as well? If so, then I'll just suck it up and move on. Like I said, I wanted to know just to prepare myself.

Chockstock: Yes. I am for real. Though "makes me uncomfortable" is more accurate. Don't know why, just has always been like that for me.

At SLS last year all the female showers had curtains built around them. Maybe they're not like that for beast?

The first time is kinda awkward but after that, its just the usual thing. If that's the least of your worries, you should be fine

Not if they are patent leather or "chlorophram." The boot letter should be out sometime soon with more information.

Not all the showers. The ones I used didn't have any (I'm a girl).
The first day was awkward. By the second day everyone was pretty much over it. By the end of the week, no one cared at all. Actually there was one weird chick who wore her underwear in the shower every single day. But everyone else seemed fine. It's really not that big of a deal.
Side note: At USAFA Summer Seminar, very few people got over the shower awkwardness. I have no idea why (maybe the Air Force attracts a different group of people :shake:). There were three shower stalls with curtains and three shower stalls without curtains. There was always a huge line for the curtained ones and the uncurtained ones were largely left alone.

Dang!! I actually had the SAME experience, from a guy's perspective. After the first day at SLS no one really cared. We were being shuffled around so much and moving from place to place so fast it didn't seem like there was time to. There were some guys who wore compression shorts in there and stuff, but that really just made it 'wierd' for everyone else..... However, I would definitely agree that people were much more 'sensitive' at USAFA. Nice observation, I wondered if I was the only one who noticed it....
