Rated Slots Going Out

I am a firstie! I have heard that non rated AFSCs are dropping in two weeks, but we all know how rumors work. Only time will tell!
I did not request a rated slot, but am actually crossing into the green. :)

Additionally, something I should've specified: All of those that were placed on the alternate list after the initial drop were placed there after not receiving a rated slot at all.

As far as maintenance goes, not sure yet what the #'s are. We will find out when non rated drops. However, I would not say that it has been highly competitive in years past.

When it comes to your second question 2017Dad, I am not quite sure. Hopefully someone else can help us out!
Good luck to you and I hope you get your choice.... My son is there but still has a few years to go.....he mentioned that pilot slots went pretty deep in the class this year.

Can firsties not satisfied with their rated assignment drop (e.g., an RPA assignment) decline their rated slot and then get assigned to one of their non-rated AFSC preferences? (Someone wrote that the non-rated assignments come out in a week or so.)

Yep! They opt to go into the non rated drop with the rest of the firstie class.

However there is a catch. If they decline a rated slot, than unless it is different for USAFA grads, they can never apply for a rated slot again. I.E. Got RPA, wanted Pilot, will take Intel with the intention to reapply again for Pilot later on.
