Rather Awkward Admissions Question..

I am not an admissions officer, but I know that (on paper, at least) I am a highly competitive candidate.
2200 sat, never had a b on my transcript, 11 AP classes, 2 varsity sports, captain of one, other leadership and service, received an LOE and 3q in early November, completed my file (all but the medical portion) in August, etc... A friend of mine from my school received the principal nom from our district, and was admitted in the first wave. I received a nom, just not the principle nom. Are my chances of being admitted hurt by having someone from my relatively small class already appointed?

I hope I don't sound spiteful here, I'm really happy for my friend- he absolutely deserves it.

Thanks for any replies!

Not at all, in terms of having people from the same school, that is.
I have two friends in my school who applied to the academies. One just got accepted to USAFA and the other to USMA. I'm an LOA trying to get into USMA, and the only thing hurting your odds is that another spot was filled and that is one less spot that is open for you. I wouldn't be worried; here is a test of patience. I've been waiting since January to hear, and may not hear until April. Just relax, focus on finishing out the school year and getting in great shape, and let the process pick you up when it is ready for you.
P.S. Waiting is not fun. It is horrible. I hate the anxiety. However, both you and I will survive. Every day you don't hear is one day closer to when you will.

Hard to tell. If you two live in the same congressional district and the congress member only used one nomination this year and you only received one nomination, then your only shot may be coming in as the top 150 off the NWL.

Two young men from our town received appointments this year to WP. I'm assuming that one got a congressional nom (my son) and the other received maybe a senatorial nom.

DS and a very close friend from the same HS both received appointments the same year, in a very competitive district.

It can happen if you can get noms.

Just to offer you encouragement, my oldest DS is class of 2016, and there were 3 kids from his local high school that were all direct admits to USMA. Same nomination source.
My second DS is class of 2018 and there are three kids in that class that are now in USMA from his high school. The second group all started at the same HS, but got to USMA from three different routes; one direct admit, one USMAPS, one from civil prep....again, all from the same nomination source.
From everything I have read on this forum, I acknowledge this very rare, but it can happen. It the words of another poster....push hard, press forward. Please have your plan B ready, but do not give up hope.

I received an appointment to West Point a couple weeks ago and my girlfriend who goes to the same school just got hers. Definitely possible, it didn't seem to affect either of us. They don't really use schools to spread people out , that's what the nomination system is for and it's common for multiple people in a district to get appointments. Good luck
