Anyone else RD still awaiting a decision? Just trying to gauge if this late in the game no reply is looking bad or if I still have some hope to hold onto… Admissions has said said since day one that “no news is good news”, but even when we are this close to April 1? Just looking to gain some perspective.

The very last week is just as viable as any other week! Just hang in and try to remain positive!

A local girl who I mentored through the process told me just two days ago that she was starting to get a really bad feeling. Later that day she received a full appointment!

It’s not over until it’s over! And if it doesn’t work out this year, and this is what you really want, get up the next day and get to work on class of 2029!

My DS deferred from EA and still waiting. It has been such a long road and I keep telling him it isn’t over until it is over. Though he has a single medical DQ that they have not initiated the waiver process for yet- he has been under waiver review since 11/1- so I feel the TWE is inevitable. It makes it so much harder because there are no plan B’s he is excited about even though he does have amazing other options. For better or worse, the FAFSA mess has at least made it that so many of his classmates still do not know where they are going yet.
Here’s hoping to more BFE’s this final week!!

I’m in the same boat as you and your DS. I have a backup plan (Virginia Military Institute) set and ready, but it’s going to take me some time to get the same level of “excitement” I have for the Academy. Praying for another round of appointments in the coming week, the wait is long, but at least will be over soon!

I got an appointment December 22 the day before the Early Action decision deadline was. Just because you’re still waiting to hear back doesn’t mean you’re waiting for bad news.
Thank you, and congratulations on your appointment!

Same boat here (no pun intended, we’re gonna need a bigger boat…I’ll see myself out).

Fortunately son is sitting on 3 ROTC scholarships as Plans B1/B2/B3; just waiting in Ivy Day before he makes his ultimate decision regarding program & school.

Oh, and still waiting on USNA, too…

Warning - anxious parent post. I'm feeling pretty down on my DS' chances this week. He wants it so bad but I just have a feeling he's on the margin. Stellar ACT score (33) but lesser gpa and while he's a recruited athlete he's not at the 'we REALLY want this kid' level. He wants it so bad though. I had to work to get him to explore back-up options and he's found some good ones. He really enjoyed meeting the Army ROTC PMS at one of his top options so he put in for the AROTC scholarship before the last round of selection boards. Those results also come out this week. It's not what he has his heart set on, the USCGA, but for all we know it's exactly the right place for him to be. I'm just not looking forward to the level of disappointment he's bound to feel should he not get an appointment this week.

If he doesn't get offered CGAS (or an appointment) he should consider a year of "self-prep" at one of the prep school options. MMI, GMC or UMass Boston.

I suggested this route. GMC now has a club wrestling program and I heard that's where they'll be sending CGAS preppers moving forward (they were previously going to the USNA Prep School), but a USCGA grad told him to just "self prep" where he wants to go, i.e. he goes to a state school and does ROTC (not binding freshman year) and reapplies to the USCGA as soon as he's able and submits college grades as soon as he has them. He liked that idea better than moving clear across the country for GMC and it does leave both paths open. If he were to get denied again, he'd still have a year under his belt and would transition on to the ROTC scholarship years 2-4. That said, I imagine it would be easier to focus on the USCGA path at one of the prep schools.

If he's a wrestler, I know we have at least two wrestlers (probably more, but I know of the two) who self-prepped. One self-prepped at typical 4 year school and club wrestled for the year, and I think the other one might have went to GMC. If it doesn't work out this year, I'm sure the coaches could put your son in touch with them to find out about their different experiences to help make the decision.

DD was RA still waiting here. With a miss on USCGA end of getting info sent to CIVTeam for her eye and medical exams those were completed last week. Thankfully they show complete as of Friday so we're still hoping there's time. Plan B is in the works for Aeronautics Pilot Program and Air Force ROTC with good scholarship amount from the school.

A big question is how important is the branch of service to him? If the academy doesn't work out, and his dream is ultimately to serve as an officer in the Coast Guard, he may want to consider DCSS (Direct Commission Selected School). My understanding is you attend one of the schools in the list below, participate in their Corp of Cadets, and put in for DCSS upon graduation. While there is no CG ROTC, most of these schools have some sort of track for those interested in the Coast Guard.

Granted, if a hefty scholarship from ROTC weighs heavier than ultimately ending up in the Coast Guard, then this may not be the best option. However, some of these schools do offer decent merit scholarship money.

Again, just something to at least consider if for nothing else an Option C. My daughter was dead set on commissioning as an officer in the CG and she had a couple of these schools on standby if the academy didn't work out.

Best of luck!!!! Hang in there!!!

We know one of them really well. He actually showed us around campus this past fall. He prepped through NAPS and suggested GMC. We'll put all the options on the table and discuss them once we know what they really are. The nice thing about GMC is it's rolling admissions (no hard deadline) so if he wants to go that route it will be there.

Joining the anxious parent. I fear my kid is also on the margins. And, has been chasing this so long and unwilling to put a back up in place. If he doesn't get in, will take a closer look at NMMI. Note, application to SUNY Maritime open until 4/1 which is a straight path to OCS. Good luck to all. They can't be sending out decisions on Good Friday/Easter Sunday...could they?
