Regular admissions

I can tell you from experience last year my daughter was deferred EA then received a full appointment early March. That was right about the time the first announcements started to come out. I hope that helps

The extra time between EA and March allowed her to further build on her application. Improved PFE, Captain Senior Year Spring sport, National Honor Society and ... can't recall what else. Hopefully you were able to strengthen your application given the extra time. You are just weeks away now. It will come fast. Enjoy your Senior year and best of luck to you

DD received DODMERB (DQ) notification for CGA and portal status changed to ready for review. How soon can be expected that the board will review the file?

Unfortunately, it is hard to determine based on that status. From my understanding, there are (at least) two steps in the admissions decision process. I believe that status simply means the packet is ready for the first step of the process.

First, your packet is reviewed by two members of the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board.
If those first two reviewers on the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board both give you a negative review, then you are done.
If those first two reviewers are split on their decision, then a third person reviews your packet to decide if you go before the board.
If both of those people give you a positive review, then your packet moves forward to be reviewed by the Committee which consists of several people including the Director of Admissions, other Admissions staff, at least one academic faculty member, an athletic faculty member (this is where the coach can provide input if you are a recruited athlete), and others. Together, the committee makes a final decision.

It is not clear how long it takes the Committee to review an application that passes the CCEB.

In past years, some applicants in the Regular Pool start hearing back from Admissions in March, but not everyone hears at once.

Along those lines, I also have a couple of questions. If deferred from EA to RA, will the reviewers and the board look over the full packet again? Will they be aware of new PFEs and letters of recommendation submitted thru the online system?

Also, I know it's hard to say, any sense of how many (historical percentage, maybe) deferrals there are? I know Captain Fredie put up some stats, but I wasn't able to extrapolate out from that...

My daughter sent improved PFE scores, recommendations, and her first semester grades directly to her AO who emailed back that he added them to her file. So I'm assuming they would be looking at all of that. She was also contacted to meet locally with a volunteer to do an interview. Now we just wait.

Yes my son sent his grades and supplemental essay to AO but has the PFE and LOR directly uploaded. I'll probably have him email AO to make sure everyone is aware there are additional items in the online system

Her AO sent the PFE form directly to her Crossfit instructor and when he turned it in the AO told him it was received.

In the application handbook it said between 75-100 of EA are usually deferred to RA.

My DS emailed his personal statement for reevaluation with regular admission, had his guidance counselor email mid-year grades and his JROTC instructor submit updated PFE but he has not received confirmation of their receipt. He resent and requested a confirmation of receipt but has not heard back.

Should he assume they’ve been added to his file or follow up for confirmation in another manner?

My cadet was fortunate and had a super responsive AO who always copied her as he forwarded on to the person things needed to go to. If your son hasn't received any confirmation directly from the AO or a notification if he used a return receipt function on the email, I would recommend continued follow up. I wouldn't leave anything to chance.

My daughter also had a good relationship with the sports coach and liked to keep him updated on grades, test scores and other positive things. Depending on the relationship and level of recruitment, a coach could be a good resource to express any concern about information flow and can strategically make sure things are moving along properly.

Yes! We have been very thankful for the responsive AO and the coach has kept in constant contact. Really hoping for positive news before April 1st.
