I applied to be in the USAFA class of 2028, and haven’t heard anything back (I’m operating of I haven’t got in but there still a little bit of hope that I may still hear a yes)
My academics and leadership were strong, and I received a nomination from my district representative. The one thing that was weak was my CFA.
I’m wondering, with all that, is it worth trying again next year for an appointment? Or should I just stay in ROTC? I’m curious what people who have gone through/helped others through this process have to say.

It depends on what you want out of it or how you wanna get there, but an Air Force officer is an Air Force officer no matter if you are a ring knocker or not. All just depends on weather the route to get there and each respective benefits matter to you.

It's not over until I-Day so don't give up hope yet. Read the other posts in here about acceptance and how long some people waited. It's always worth reapplying if it's your dream.

I got appointed on 20 May back in 2021, literally a month before I Day. I would wait out a bit more but definitely have your backup plans ready.

I found myself on the waitlist for the Air Force Academy in April last year. I pursued my Plan B, securing my Air Force scholarship and committing to my college deposit. However, come May, I received the disappointing TWE. Nevertheless, I remained resolute in my determination to reapply. I believed that if I were to receive an appointment, it would allow me to make an informed decision between continuing my college path or embracing the opportunity at the Academy. My college journey reinforced my desire for the 24/7 immersive of leadership experience and full military lifestyle offered by the Academy. In February, my perseverance paid off as I received an appointment for the Class of 2028. Remember, you'll always know what's best for you. I refused to live with the 'What Ifs.' Best of luck.

DS found out in April (last year) that he received a falcon foundation scholarship. He sounded just like you- CFA wasn’t as good as it could have been but everything else was strong. He is at nmmi and doing outstanding. Got his appointment for class of 2028. Just be patient and have your plan B ready! Good luck!!!

I heard that graduates from the ROTC program are not as prestigious and end up taking less desirable roles. Is that true?

Absolutely not

Look at the senior leadership across the military and it’s not often SA grads

There is little evidence to suggest one commissioning source produces ‘better’ officers

I am a grad, my sister is a grad, and my DD is a USNA grad, but in the big picture no one cares when you hit active duty where you got your commission.

And in all honesty many other colleges provide more skilled engineers, computer scientists, etc because they do deeper academic dives in a ‘normal’ college. Though rarely do you get a commission based on your degree and most officers are asked to lead vs be technical specialists.

Nooo, most of my family went ROTC ( I'm the only academy) most were doctors but we've had quite a few incredible jobs. The only thing rotc doesn't have for jobs would be pilots. The air force academy is given about 450 slot for 1000 students vs ROTC the same for the whole country. Oh and I would also say space force, we have 96 spots for 1000.
