Remaining NROTC Boards

My son was called a few weeks ago and given another oral interview for the minority school scholarship? When is that board and when are the results released? Anyone know? The MSI.

Just when you thought it was safe to stop checking this thread.....

The initial MSI results are out. Folks can check the portal or check their emails. One more board to go and then I won't post in here anymore (fingers crossed). :cool:

Congrats. The portal probably gets stuck because we shifted from previous scholarship year to the new year. But the email is reliable! :D
 
I was notified this morning that I was awarded the 4-year NROTC Scholarship. The Unit I was placed at I did not gain admission to. What would the best course of action be?

1.) Contact the NROTC Unit of the school I was denied at to see about reconsidering admission.
2.) File for a change of placement request to a different school I have been admitted to.

Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

Our DS is going to lay a turd with a D in one of his Tier 2 major course. That will be his only bad grade this semester, but comes after a C in first semester calc. In this scenario is he cooked for the 3 yr sideload?

This will sound like a lawyerly answer, but it depends. Does he know how many other people at the unit are competing as College Programmers? It matters in so far as the PNS has to rank all of the side load applicants for that unit.

Next, if I were the PNS, I would be checking the tutoring muster sheets. Was he accepting tutoring or no? Did he inform the ROTC staff in advance or wait until last minute?

Is he a PT rock star? Involved in lots of extra unit activities?

For me, when I see people getting less than fantastic grades in their first year, it could be part of the new socialization of the college environment. So it may not be fatal. But if the whole picture starts to look mediocre, I typically tell them to shake it off and try harder next year.

I cant find the original post, but I think you may be the one where the recruiting officer may have fumbled the package. Do you know if that ever got sorted out?

Ye, that was my son... He supposedly got his application in after some higher ups got involved (I don't believe it)... Not a peep.... 3.8 GPA, 4 years JROTC with leadership, high SAT score.. band, and other things... not a peep... was accepted at the Citidel and looks like he won't go, we can't afford to pay.

Thanks you Capt. Meyers. The class was not one with tutoring (i.e. not Phys/Calc etc) and bozo did not do what I told him is required in these types of engineering classes which is to partner up for the projects and study/do homework in a group. He tried to do it on his own and here we are. He did decent on the last midterm but too little too late. Competing with I think 2 or 3 others for a sideload - small unit at a very big school.

PT is pretty good, with a shout out from the Gunney on the improvement from day 1. Does lots of extra activities.

I told him to make sure he informed his Lt. of the impending grade which he is doing this week, 2 weeks before finals.

Fingers crossed for him.

Don't give up yet. My son received a late scholarship notification last Friday. His application too seemed off the grid. I wish you the best.
 
DS's rising 3/Cs in his battalion are now down to 6, with a recently awarded 3 yr National winner quitting at the end of the semester. DS loves his battalion and all the COs and his whole cadre, so it's not the unit. The majority of those rising 3/Cs are MO as well, so hoping this improves his chances for the 3 yr sideload.
 
Does anyone know if parents can attend the NSI NROTC graduation at Great Lakes June 27? If so, is there a link with information? Couldn’t find any info on netc.navy.mil

This is entirely possible. Once awarded the scholarship the ROTC unit can talk to admissions at the school that denied admission. Then they can reevaluate the decision.
