I was born in October, 2001. I wasn’t alive to see the towers fall.

I’ve never lived in a country that’s known peace, all I’ve known since I’ve been alive is war.

It still chokes me up every year, seeing what all happened and what everyone went though, and I can confidently say that September 11, 2021 was one of my most important reasons for joining.

I wanted to say thank you, to all of you here who have served, and to all of you here who are serving, or will serve.

It’s never easy to join the military, but to volunteer during a time of war speaks volumes to all of you.

Thank you. May we never forget.

Lt. Col (ret) Penney lectured at the annual AFA's Leadership Symposium (I think in 2016) . DD was assigned as her escort. The Lt. Col made an impression!
There's also a C-SPAN video where Penney recalls her actions on 9/11. The part I thought was cool was after she landed, Penney called her Mom & Dad. Don't remember the Mom conversation, but Dad talked fighter pilot stuff with her because he was also one!

Excerpt from Bush's speech at the Flight 93 National Memorial:

"After 9/11, millions of brave Americans stepped forward and volunteered to serve in the Armed Forces. The military measures taken over the last 20 years to pursue dangers at their source have led to debate. But one thing is certain: We owe an assurance to all who have fought our nation’s most recent battles. Let me speak directly to veterans and people in uniform: The cause you pursued at the call of duty is the noblest America has to offer. You have shielded your fellow citizens from danger. You have defended the beliefs of your country and advanced the rights of the downtrodden. You have been the face of hope and mercy in dark places. You have been a force for good in the world. Nothing that has followed – nothing – can tarnish your honor or diminish your accomplishments. To you, and to the honored dead, our country is forever grateful."

Remarks by President George W. Bush at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania

I'd say that was one of his "better" speeches
