    Hello everyone,

I'm currently a student in the ROTC program and I just recently finished my freshman year of college. I took the DoDMERB exam last year during my senior year of high school. Do I have to renew my DoDMERB throughout college or it is not until right before commissioning where I take another medical exam?

    Thank you.

You do not need to renew your DoDMERB. Any new injuries or medical conditions do need to be reported, but check with your chain of command.

I thought DodMERB exams were only valid for two years?! DS just finished his AS100 year in AFROTC and we thought he'd be going trough the process again this summer since he had exams in July 2014. It would be nice to find out we have incorrect information :).

This if from DoDMerb faq https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/FAQs.aspx#num1q

    1. What is DoDMERB and what does DoDMERB do?

The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) schedules, evaluates, and certifies all applicants as “medically qualified” or “medically does not meet the medical accession standards” for the US Service Academies, ROTC Scholarship Programs, Direct Commission Programs, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Many applicants apply to multiple programs.

It is my understanding that DoDMERB is only for the medical qualification to get into the program. Once you are in the DoDMERB process in finished.

Are athletic medical exams different before sports tryouts?

It is only good for two years when applying for programs, but it will be extended another two years once in ROTC. Mine had to be renewed again before commissioning, but it was a painless process that basically only involved filling an updated report of medical history form.

Also, it's from the date of qualification, not the date of the exam.

You will be required to another exam prior to commissioning, at least for AFROTC. Like AFROTC16 said it is no biggie. The only thing that is different is if you go rated (flying). You will than take the FAA FC1 flight physical. That is a much more thorough exam.
