Just curious about the renovation work at Vandy last year as to what was accomplished in that section, and which squadrons will occupy the newly re-done area. Also, will another section be done this year?

I think they're at the end of 19, which is way over by Arnold Hall, but they should be continuing the renovations. Vandy tower is actually the most renovated.

Expect construction to keep going on for a WHILE. They're adding an extension onto the cadet gym, which should be done...Fall 2012 I think...and the new center for character development. Not sure when that'll be done. And they're almost done with the indoor training facility.

Just hope they're done re-shingling Fairchild by the school year. That tar stinks up EVERYTHING!

From the plans that I have heard:

Two floors of Vandy were renovated this academic year, and there will be two done next year, and the final two the year after. Then they will begin on Sijan, doing two floors per year. So, this years new cadets will live with a room shortage their whole career at USAFA. I do not know that the squadron arrangement has been decided, or who will get to occupy the newly re-done areas.

I haven't seen the completed areas, but based on the pallets of new materials that I saw brought in, they got new flooring, ceilings, and furniture. I would guess that they re-did the walls, also, because anyone who has been inside can tell you that most of the room's walls had some damage.

The area in the red is Vandy Tower. Those renovations were completed during the last Academic (Fall 09 - Spring 10) year.

The area in blue was renovated last semester. That's where I am living now.

The area in green is the area currently being renovated. That's where I was living last semester. They began work on this area after cadets moved out after finals last semester.

They renovate work on all four floors during each block.

Son is in Sq 20 at the very north end of Vandy. Will be a junior this fall, and says they are having to move for renovations in the fall. Will probably have to go to 3 man rooms even for Juniors :-(. Says they are suppose to be able to move back in their renovated rooms next spring.

Well, my DS has shared a room with two brothers for most of his years, so this won't be a difficult transition.

I thought I heard that sibs were not allowed to be in the same squadron, (at the same time).

That is true. I took the comment to mean he shares a room with his brothers back home.

Thanks for that clarification. Sounds like your boy was well prepared for cadet dorm life!
