A lot has changed since they removed the actual tolls. MOST of the rental car companies offer a small additional charge on the rental, where they simply pay the tolls for you instead of passing it on to you. My family came out to visit duing my son's graduation from the academy last year. They paid like an extra $15 or $20 a day on the rental fee, (Not sure of the exact amount, but it wasn't huge). This covered ALL tolls, as many times as they used it. I use the E470 a lot. In a week's period, they probably drove the E-470 (END TO END) at least 4 times. It was covered. So the FIRST thing I recommend is to check with the car rental company. Afterall; they're the ones who are getting the TOLL Bill. Not You. Each rental car company is different. Check with them first before you do anything. See what their policy is. Some already have transponders and you pay them $10-$15 (Or whatever a day) part of the rental and it's in the car. Call them first.
