I have a skin condition called rosacea. It’s a condition where your cheeks are flushed and red. It is very mild and has never been diagnosed by a doctor. As a matter of fact, I had a general check up a few weeks ago and my doctor said nothing about it!

I am seeking an appointment to one of the service academies and will be applying to all ROTC scholarships. Will rosacea affect me in the DoDMERB process?

You have never been diagnosed for it by a doctor, then you don’t have it. Self diagnosis does not mean you have been disgnosed with it. I wouldn’t put it down then.

I wasn’t planning to put it down by your exact reasoning, however, I’m sure the DoDMERB doctors will notice it. When they do notice it, do they have the ability to diagnose it, or do they need a doctors diagnosis...?

They could note it or not. If you don’t have it on your paperwork they aren’t going to dig. The physical isn’t that thorough. It’s really a much deeper dive into you medical history than anything. The actual physical is pretty short.

I wouldn't say its a deeper dive at all - they basically ask you the same questions already on your form - and may ask a couple clarifying questions about any conditions or injuries your reported. It is very, very basic.

Of course, this could vary from provider to provider, but these doctors aren't getting paid much to perform these exams - they are rushing through them as fast as they can. Many are performed by IME and WC mills that make their money by running a high volume practice. I think this is why we see so many inaccuracies reported by the examiners, as reflected by multiple threads on this board.

These folks aren't superman or superwoman. If your own doctor didn't notice it or comment, then I doubt they will as well.
