Hi,

I'm a high school senior wanting to do Air Force ROTC in college. However, the best college match I have found (great financial aid, good engineering program, etc.) only has Army ROTC.

So my question is, how do crosstown agreements get set up? Are there rules for how close the host detachment must be, how many prospective cadets are lined up, etc.?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give, and have a great day!

You can look up colleges with AFROTC Detachments at: http://afrotc.com/college-life/college-locator/

You can look up who has crosstown agreements with the host schools. I don't know the particulars regarding the number of cadets and distances, but this is a good place to start.

It's Do-Able

Liz,

We did this in 2009 with my DS's desired school and a crosstown university. It sounds like you're early in the process. We were attempting to establish a crosstown at a school that had only a passing familiarity with AROTC (1 cadet), but none with AFROTC, while trying to activate a scholarship. Lots of work from all three parties, but it worked.

If you aren't yet trying to turn on a scholarship, it might be easier to wait until you are closer to enrolling and then work the issue.

It also might be a good time to talk to the school registrar and see if they are open to the idea. Who knows, they may have had a crosstown agreement, but just seen it go inactive for lack of students.

Good Luck!
