Scholarship/Award Night

My DS will be attending USAFAPS and his school is asking how best to announce this scholarship and an estimated value? How have you all done this in the past? Im
only finding “full ride” values for the appointment directly to USAFA.

I don’t think you can take the USAFA value as they haven’t been appointed there yet. It is true it’s a golden ticket if they do well in the prep but I don’t think you can value it at a $400,000 education as of yet. Just my .02

Right, we’re not using that… just prep? Looking for what others have done? Should we tell the school no value? They just asked specifically for what his “scholarship” would be worth.

We don't really mention the value of scholarships...well, not the ones from schools anyway. From schools, the schools in our area just say, "full scholarship" or in the case of SAs, they say, "John Doe will be attending the United States Air Force Academy." People know. If it's 3rd party scholarships, they just say the name of the scholarship.

However full ride is presented as Studrnt name, full ride to “blank” university.

But, At the end of the night they have a total value of overall scholarships awarded, so while they would likely not say what my DS balue to USAFA prep is, just that he’s going USAFA prep they would include the value in the end of night total of money awarded that night.

What does your ALO say? Usually they know what’s up and are actually there for the awards ceremony. You should reach out to them.

Really? Had no idea, however my DS ALO has rarely replied to an email. I highly doubt he would be attending.

First of all, congrats on the appointment. My oldest is a USAFA Preppie and he absolutely loved it and has so many Preppie friends on The Hill now who also helped his younger brother who went in direct. It really is an amazing opportunity for them and they will remember it fondly. Honestly, IMHO, I think that telling them full ride to USAFAPS is good and as DTT!FSA! stated above divide USAFA by four so you have an approximate cost of one year of school. They mirror so many of the things at The P they do on The Hill it seems a fair approximation.

Really? Had no idea, however my DS ALO has rarely replied to an email. I highly doubt he would be attending.

We had that issue with DS#2. His ALO was less than worthless, however, he did send a rent-a-2LT to do the presentation.

Not sure ours has a clue of the date. May not even know he was offered a prep spot The scholarship night is Thursday. Our school reached out to DS MOC. I’ll just show up and see what happens.
