Hey Guys,
I'm in the progress of starting a school club to benefit veterans and veteran organizations through raising money for donations. I've got some ideas like bake sales and such for donations, and visiting local vfws and american legion posts to see if their are opportunities to help out like yard work or other stuff like that. I was looking for any ideas that could help me out at all!?? Also, does anyone know the process of boys state? Thank you!

I would contact the Wounded Warriors program. They have ways for your club to plug in and help. Good for you! Keep it up:thumb:

Another amazing organization is the Soldiers' Angels.

We have worked with this organization in the past and hope to work with them in the future, especially now that their mission is being reshaped to work directly with the VA system, etc.

We have had great success doing "store fronts". We pretty much stand there and say "good morning" as they enter the store and "have a nice day" when they leave all with smiles on our faces.

If anyone asks about the posters we are holding, we explain that we are taking donations, etc. People will give generously if they find the reason worthy and our group has raised thousands in only 4-5 store front days - all with never asking for a dime. 100% of the money we receive is used for veterans - AWESOME chance to shake hands with veterans and hear their stories of service. I am always humbled and honored to listen to their stories.

Boys State

I'm not sure how it works in other states, but Boys State in PA opens applications in January, and the selection process all the way up until very near to the date of the event in the summer. Google your state name and "Boys State," and you should get the information you need. Also, check with your local American Legion branch, as they often sponsor kids from their areas. It's a WONDERFUL leadership learning opportunity that both my DSs attended. One is currently a youngster at USNA and the other has received a 4-year NROTC scholarship for the class of 2019 and is a USNA hopeful. Boys State definitely played a big role in their successes and I highly recommend going if you can.

Good for you for your initiative and service to others!

Probably too late for this year, but the Wreaths Across America campaign has a fundraising option (http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/act-now/start-fundraising/). (This year's campaign ends December 1.) For each wreath that is sponsored, your group gets $5. The wreaths will be placed at national cemeteries and other memorials on December 13.

DS's team is doing this and working with the Wounded Warriors Project to identify specific needs to which they can donate the proceeds.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, I've emailed a ton of organizations seeing what I could do to potentially help out. I also looked up the boys state and know all about it. Thanks for the help, if you have any other ideas, something comes up or you could use my help in any way just post here! Good win for Navy today too, Reynolds is the man
Thanks
Shea
