Out of curiosity, what is the percent score one must achieve on the ABS to validate calculus 1.

i think 23Lt is referring to the exams taken during the first few weeks of plebe summer

What is an "ABS"? You have to have an AP test score of "4" or better to validate Calc 1.
There is a series of online tests taken before attending Plebe summer. Calc 1 and Calc 2 can be validated via these tests if validation was not done thru the AP test(s). Calc 3 can also be validated, although there is a written test done for that during Plebe summer if a certain score is reached on the Calc 3 online exam.

@23Lt, I do not think there are any minimum scores listed anywhere that you need to reach to validate.

Yeah the Academic Background System is where I just took the Calculus 1 validation exam. I scored a 20/25 (80%). I will be taking the AP Calc BC exam in two weeks also. I will get two scores back: a BC score (calc 2) and an AB score (calc 1).

I couldn't find any information on the score on the ABS they want to see to validate. I was just seeing if anyone had any experience.

They will not tell you what score it takes to pass. You either validate or you don't. They won't tell you your score afterward, either (at least they didn't last year).

They tell you your score on the ABS.

Did you take the AP exam for Calc AB? DS will be in this situation, where he DIDNT take the AP exam for Calc AB. But he will for BC.

What I am wondering is if he passes all the BC stuff, does that automatically validate the first Calc? If I’m even making sense [emoji849]

There is a sub-score section for AB on the BC exam. You take both the AB and BC exams in effect when you take the BC.

"Midshipmen who have finished the online pre-calculus exam have the opportunity to take an online multiple choice Calculus I exam. This exam is updated each year to reflect any changes in our first calculus course. Calculators are not allowed on the Calculus exams. A score of roughly 70% is needed to validate the course."

Are the tests multiple choice only?

Yes

Do you need to take he ABS exams if you have high AP calc scores?

ALL MIDN candidates must take the first 4. The calculus ones are optional.

If you have a 4 or 5 on the calc test you want to validate, no you don't need to take the ABS calc exams because AP scores trump ABS scores.
