What would be the difference between attending a Senior Military College with NROTC vs. a regular civilian college with NROTC?
I am new to this site and have been following this thread. I have what may seem like a very simple question but I can't get a straight answer. My son is applying to USNA but has a very small chance of getting in. He really would like a career in the Navy. Do you need an ROTC scholarship to be commissioned upon graduation from TAMU or VT? I know you don't need one at VMI but what about the other SMC.
You don't need a scholarship to be commissioned, but it is very useful, since you are guaranteed a commission if you get a scholarship.
All SMCs are different from each other. The lifestyle of a cadet at VT or TAMU is much different from that of one at VMI or the Citadel (at least after freshman year).
So if I were in your position, I wouldnt be simply thinking of SMC vs. regular ROTC. Id look at each individual SMC vs. regular ROTC.
Good luck
