So my DD and I were looking at SF86. When it came to the drug part, we had a bit of an issue. The form asks for number of uses of marijuana, and when filling out the dodmerb application she remembered only using it twice. I reminded her of another time, which she somehow forgot to count. So basically she reported to dodmerb usage of two times when the actual number was 3. On sf86, if she reports 3, will it raise concerns that this number differs from previous reported numbers? should she keep it at 2? Is it a big issue? We just don't want it to be an issue when she tries to get a secret security clearance or things like that. The usage was back in 9th grade, and she has realized she messed up and will not do it again. What should we do about this? Thanks

My recommendation is to "report" it correctly on the SF86 and use the remark section to explain what happened and mention the misreporting on the DoDMERB application. "Experimenting" with marijuana a few times and not doing it again probably won't prevent someone from getting a security clearance, but lying about it will increase the chance of not getting a security clearance.

On a side note, for the Army, commissioned officers are required to have a security clearance. So if an officer is denied or lose a security clearance, he or she will get separated.

IMHO, she will be fine. I think it would draw more negative attention to herself if she changed the number. She reported her usage, which, in my opinion, is all that matters, as long as she won't do it again. Even if it is investigated, I think what brings up issues is if there is someone who says so and so
Used drugs every day over his summer when so and so only reported a usage of 3 times. If someone being interviewed later on says three times when the reported number was twice, I think they will cut some slack. Nobody will know the exact number besides your DD and they will realize that.

Report it as truthfully as you know it. You don't need to provide an explanation of how the number was different on DODMERB forms. In the unlikely event that someone notices the discrepancy AND someone contacts your DD, then just give them the truth. Based on what you stated, your DD didn't incorrectly report the numbers to deceive or lie.

Does anybody know the maximum amount of marijuana uses before they won't let someone in? I am in the same boat, I reported two uses on my dodmerb form and two other times completely slipped my mind until a buddy brought them up. I want to be completely honest on sf86, but I am wondering if 4 uses is too many. They were back in 2010. Will this jump from 2 to 4 from my dodmerb to my sf86 cause issues if I explain why the difference is?

It should not even be an issue - you should not be smoking pot at all.
