Should I bother putting this on my nomination application as extra athletic activities?

Scenario: I have not done sports till my Junior Year (soccer). However, I have played in many organized pick-up basketball games at my local games (sounds oxymoronic, but basically, once a week you show up if you want to play, they put your name on a roster, and they even have refs).

I believe you've answered your own question. Smacks of desperation.

If you are NOT participating in varsity sports you need to be prepared to be asked why. You also should be prepared to describe what you have been doing to develop and maintain your physical fitness at the high level which will be expected by the service academy. Finally, you need to be prepared to do very well on the CFA. Best wishes to you.

From USNA Admissions, it is better to report more than less. But 1964BGO has it right...particularly, this would probably come up in your BGO interview (as to why you don't do HS sports).
