My son just found out that he is the recipient of a 4 year NROTC scholarship. Is this something that should be sent to admissions to update his file to show achievements/scholarships? -officer

    Congrats and questions

My son is also applying to the Academy and NROTC scholarship. How long after your sons final NROTC interview did he get notified of the award? What school/area of study will he be going to if he accepts? How long do you have to let the NROTC know if he will accept the offer? This process is much different from any other my son is pursuing. Thanks for any answers, and again congratulations to your son!

My son applied and interviewed in June. The scholarship is for Texas A&M, and his interest is mechanical engineering. He was very up front with his NROTC rep. and told him that the USCGA is his first choice. So he called his NROTC rep. and asked if he could put his scholarship on hold, and he said not a problem. -So as soon as you find out something, just give them a call and let them know your situation. -officer

Officer - Congrats to your son. How was he notified? Was it online on his NROTC status page?

Yes, he checked his NROTC online yesterday. It says that a notification letter will be arriving 2 weeks from when it was posted online. -officer

I usually tell applicants that they should submit any information that they want the CCEB to be aware of and consider during the file review. At best it's a positive item and at worst it's a neutral item...I don't think any CCEB reviewer would view it as a negative item or something that could hurt your son's chances of receiving an appointment.

When my D submitted info on NROTC scholarships and MOC noms for USNA to USCGA, she also made it clear in her communications that USCGA was her first choice. So, if you (or your child) has a ranked 'preference' among USNA, USCGA and NROTC would suggest also communicating that information to Admissions.
