DS received nom from Senator A to 4 academies. Senator B said he was working with Senator A to assure more candidates had noms, or DS would have received 2 noms. Congressman then called DS for interview, but DS said he already had nom.

Should DS have had the interview for possible 2 noms, or was he right for passing it on to next candidate?

You should always try to get as many nominations as possible. He should have had the interview for a better chance at an appointment.

EagleMom: Your intentions are noble...but you will help the SAs more by having your DS get as many nominations as he can from all available sources...this way the SA has more flexibility in giving him an appointment. Unfortunately we can never tell which shell that pea is hiding in no matter how hard we look...good luck to your DS...our prayers are with you!

GO NAVY! :tomcat:

Truthfully, you made a mistake in not going after every nomination you could. That said, the nominations were finalized long ago and there's nothing you can do about it now. By now, your DS either already knows his final admissions status or will soon, and if it's bad news, asking "what ifs" like this will only drive you crazy. The past is the past, you did what you did and nothing you do now can change that. So don't worry about it

It did not matter for our son that he declined the Congressman's interview.

Son had interviewed with Kohl and Feingold. He was given Feingold's nom, and was told by Kohl's office that they had coordinated and he wouldn't get Kohl's nom, also. A week later, Congressman Petri's office called to set up an interview, and son told them he already had a nom so he wouldn't interview. A week after that, Kohl's office called to tell us that son now had Kohl's nom instead of Feingold's because it opened up another slot for one of Feingold's noms.

Then....in January we got a call form USAFA admissions that son was now being given Petri's nom to open another slot for Kohl. So son ended up with his nom from a Congressman with whom he never even interviewed.

So if your son applied to the Congressman, he may still be eligible for the nom from him, even though he didn't interview. The Academy will use the nomination source that best works for them.
