Are cadets allowed to ski on weekends or during breaks? Like at local resorts such as Vail and Breckinridge.

If you don’t have any homework, military duties, not a silver weekend etc you can ski and many cadets do. They buy an Epic pass for like $135 for the entire year (amazing price). My son never skied before going out there. Now he loves it, not very good at it but loves to go.

When I was a cadet (back when Dino's roamed the TZo...) the "ski club" was THE most popular club!!

Our son graduated a few years ago and skied most winter weekends. He was on the Alpine ski team (club) but also went with squadron friends. He always says that getting away from the Academy for a break kept him going through some of the tough stretches.

You can likely store ski and snowboard gear at your sponsor's house. I know because our closets are currently filled with cadets' ski gear.
DS 2027. Really appreciate all those helping out with the sponsorship program to give the cadets a place to go when they can't come home.

DS just took his ski gear back with him. Not sure how many days he'll get this year besides the 3 we just did together but he says that he'll "ski as many weekends as possible next year' and is planning on buying both the Epic and Ikon passes. I skied A LOT as a cadet and even more when I was stationed at Petersen.

Bring your ski gear with you to I-day, We dare you:D:D:D Maybe wear pink slides, and carry a big box also..... If you know, you know:p

Show up to I-Day in a USAFA ringed PT shirt, with a class ring found online (the more recent the better), slippers, pit vipers, and with long hair.

Cursing and rolling your eyes at your cadre is also recommended (you wouldn't believe it).

The Epic Pass for military members is indeed epic. Both DD and DS buy one each year. Given the average cost of lift tickets at the bigger resorts, the break-even point is 4-5 hours of skiing. Yes…less than one day! Well worth it.

Are IC athlete allowed to ski ? I think at other schools the IC athletes are not allowed in case of injury.

Technically yes but highly frowned upon for risk of injury. Of course it would probably depend on when they are in season. Mine has opted to set aside her board while she is at the academy.

Depends on the team/coach and how much you value your chance to be an IC at USAFA.

Most coaches will strongly discourage it, but it's still technically allowed. My whole tennis team went for a weekend once. Our coach just about had a heart attack (if even 2 of us had gotten hurt at that point, we wouldn't have had enough players for the spring season because we already had a couple hurt).

I went but while I'm a decent skier completely capable of doing mostly harder blues/blacks, I stuck to the easy blues/greens with my team on that trip to reduce the risk of injury. It was some of the most conservative skiing I have ever done, but no one got hurt and it was still fun.
