Still in the game

Our son received NROTC. He was emailed, then about 1 1/2 weeks later letter, etc. After receiving his email he logged in, and his status said no decision had been made. Everything is lined up now, but there could be a lag in update time online or office to office. That was just his experience. His app was finished before Thanksgiving, including interview, notified in Jan.

Does anyone know if the Admissions Board has started meeting twice per week yet? How many files are typically reviewed at each session?

Still waiting to hear from NROTC, USNA, USAFA. Another week of staring at my computer and waiting for the mailman begins tomorrow!

Any words of wisdom Bubalma?

Hey Bubalma - any words of wisdom on where admissions stands in appointments/TWEs, etc?

No words of wisdom at this point.

I think a lot of appointees have been tentatively slotted and likewise a number of TWE's have been tentatively decided on.

Now is where the art of final determination takes place where the finer points of individual candidate suitability are weighed and candidates potentially move from list to list.

This is where the little things in a candidate's profile really start to count (work ethic, leadership potential, retain-ability, etc.).

Bubalma how much do recommendations weigh in the last crucial judgements? My DS certainly has retainability But how would they know that? BGO interview?

BGO's obviously weigh in to some extent.

Teacher evaluations can be huge. Let's say a candidate has a really good GPA but his/her english or math teacher honestly answers that he/she is an inconsistent student who takes it easy and falls back during a semester but pulls things together at the end.

This is not a positive indicator for someone wanting to enter a challenging educational environment such as the Academy.

Teacher recommendations are probably going to weigh heavier than a BGO's - except regarding social skills, poise, life goals, home life, etc..

Thanks. That's a slight relief as I know my DS has awesome teacher recs in addition to his others.

Bubalma

Inside scoop is really appreciated. People seem to rely upon your advice. Can you let us know what your background is? Are you a graduate of the academy, an admissions officer, parent of a grad, parent of a mid?

That I'm afraid will remain a bit of a mystery; but I've been through this before and am now going through it again for the last time.

Bubalma I hope you're still going to be around next year if I'm rejected this year! :thumb:

Well the dreaded TWE came Friday and my DS was crushed. He knew without a nomination he had very little chance but he was hoping for a NAPS appointment. He is going to attend Old Dominion and re-apply next year. A another whole year of this...I cant wait!

So sorry Hopeful....I know it's hard watching your son be so disappointed. We're still waiting here, but if my DS gets the dreaded TWE, we'll be right back with you next year!

Whoa! Just had a 4.7 earthquake here in southern california! Could it be a sign? Got my heart beating for sure!

Parental Feeling

HopefulMdDAD,

As a parent I know just how you are feeling as our older son got the same word just about this time two years ago. He also was going to reapply; however, he said two things that changed his thoughts.

The 1st came after he started college, he said he loved his school and once he was there about a month and had a pile of friends it made it that much better. The Air Force unit at his school has asked him to join their ranks. A friend of his told his unit commander of my son and his story. They asked him to come in to talk. I don't know where that is leading to currently.

The 2nd reason came when our younger son started the application process. The older said I really do not want to get in his way and reduce any chance he has. He went on to say that he will apply OCS in the end and if he does not get that he will go enlisted and go at it from the inside.

As a Navy veteran it just make me proud they both want to serve.

My younger son has the NROTC scholarship and has said what your son said. If I don't get accepted this year I will apply again.

Good luck...

This little quake reminded me of DS's plebe year as the plebes experienced a quake there at USNA. Some of the plebes from non- earthquake states were terrified, while those from CA were not very alarmed at all!

Shake it up...

mrs. m,

Have no clue how that feels but respectfully if land moves that much i would move from the land. I was raised in Staten Island and could not wait to get away from there, I was scared a big storm would come and flood us out....

Sandy took 6' of ocean to my sisters house that was 1000' from the beach. The houses near the beach were under water.

All the best out there...

I've had a good feeling about this week... but then I saw the weather for Annapolis and my navy-themed yahoo password got hacked............

USNA is closed today. However the USPS is there to serve in rain, sleet, snow.......
