Still in the game

Hello All!

First time poster and am in the same boat as you all - a few thoughts I had after reading through these threads:

1. This is an amazing group of young men and women - regardless of whether or not they receive appointments that fact won't change.

2. From the sounds of things, all have lined up impressive "plan B"'s - many, many students would be beyond thrilled to have those as plan "A"'s so although many might not get their first choice (my DS included) Plan "B" is still an incredible achievement.

3. I am both encouraged and humbled by these young people - with them at the helm (whether in the service or in the private sector) our country's future is bright indeed.
Parents, this weekend take a moment to savor.... we've raised an exceptional group of young people!!!!
Hope you all have a restful weekend - GO NAVY!!!!!!!

Welcome, kinkora!

You're right about those Plan B's!

jsmom, are you trying to tempt us to STAY UP in hopes of being the 100,000th? As if we needed a reason :shake:

Finally forced to look the mailbox in the eye this evening on the way home from piano recital of younger DS (hubby & Candidate away on college visit). Junk junk junk.

Mail is becoming a 4-letter-word. :bang:

happy haunting tonight, everyone

Nothing again. My dad brought brought a mail from Navy stuff and I got all excited, but then it was America's Navy/Navy reserve advertisement mail. UGH you have no idea how mad I was.

DS and family still waiting for that call in HI. We know that 2 of the three primaries for his Senator has been called and received their BFEs. My DS is the last one of the three. Good news though he did receive the call and appointment for USAFA but Navy is still number one on the list. From what I have noticed it appears that you get your notice based on when everything is turned in. The two canididates that got their appointments prior to DS had no medical questions and everything was turned in early. DS had a couple medical issues that needed explaining but still got medically qualified. This took several weeks after getting the letter from Dodmerb requesting for the information. Also it took about a week to a week and a half for Navy to get the Dodmerb qualification due to an error on paperwork compared to USAFA and USMA.

Glad to hear no TWEs for you! Congrats on the USAFA! I saw another HI boy got an USAFA appointment too so great job. We haven't heard from USAFA, but DS really wanted USNA anyway. If anything your son can go to USAFA and then request a cross-commission. And the flights home will be easier!

Welcome to the group Kinkora. Never did I think when I started this it would grow to be a thread of epic proportion. The support of these fine people has truly kept me sane. DS asks everyday "anything on the forum today"....it's become part of our life through this long wait - often distracting us from the hideously long New England winter we have endured. I was always very proud of DS for choosing to go down this road - and after hearing about all the DS's and DD's who have chosen this same path I am confident that if he is lucky enough to gain admission to USNA he will be serving with some extraordinary young people who will always have his 6.
GO NAVY!!

Memories

You guys make my heart hurt!!

I admit I have been stalking this post ---I re-lived the mailbox stalking---may I offer my heartfelt hopes and prayers that no matter if the TWE or the BFE arrives you all know how wonderful you or your kids are and it can take hopefuls more than one try--don't give up.

As a firstie mom let me just say my DS said if he had it to do over knowing what he knows now --not that I would live thru it---and he was offered NAPS instead of his appointment he would take it!! His room mate and some of his best friends were Napsters and they were way ahead of the plebes that went straight in. Academically and Militarily. So for what it's worth please consider NAPS it may be a blessing !

Best of luck to you all!!! Fingers crossed and prayers being sent!!!

I know.... brace yourselves!

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I DID NOT check the mail today! Decided to ignore it and will get it all on Monday after the regatta. 3:45 a.m. start to hit the course this weekend. Never knew milking cows back in the day would prepare me for my DS sport choices.

See everyone on Monday!

No news today.

I did find out yesterday Plan B - Citadel - did not offer DS any scholarships which means $50,156 for first year. HA! (I laugh to keep from crying.) We are still waiting word from ROTC Scholarship. Anyone have any news?

Set for Pre-Knob visit 4/3-4 at Citadel

Plan D - Florida State University - has a Preview visit to the campus on 4/4. It's the last Preview visit. DS is adopted and will receive free tuition to FL public college plus Bright Futures Scholarship.

Which one should we go to? DS would pick Citadel over FSU IF he received ROTC scholarship. Of course, Plan A trumps all but we are losing hope. :(

My own thought is that if it comes down to plan B without a scholarship vs Plan D, then Plan D is the winner... unless of course you have vast wealth behind you. FSU is a good school and I see no reason the take on a lot of debt or "mis-allocation" of resources for what amounts to very similar educations. I don't think the in-school scholarship chances would be better at one school over the other (and if a student did have an advantage at one school I would go with Florida as opposed to the heavy competition at El Cid).

Just my $0.02. Worth what you paid for it. Good luck. Hope a scholarship comes through. :thumb:

I just got a knock on the door and to my surprise I looked up and it was my congressman. I thought why in the world was he at my door? I quickly jumped up and ran to open the door as about a hundred different thoughts of what he was gonna say ran through my head. He introduced himself I shook his hand and then he said I would like your vote in the next election and asked if he could put a sign up in our yard....

JPEagle tell him only if you get an appointment!!!

Goo morning all. Good luck to everyone today! DS and husband off to an air show to see the blue angles perform! I get to stay home and stalk the mailbox!

JPEagle--that is the worst! His timing was not good at all! Just curious--what DID you say??

I SO thought you were going to say either 1) it was the long-awaited news, or 2) it was a dream (or nightmare)!!

I was hoping for the first option!

I stood there and managed to stutter out a disappointed sounding "Hello Sir" followed by a "Yes, you can put a sign in our front lawn"... I should have taken Prepswimmom's advice and told him to hook me up with an appointment first! :shake:

Sorry to hear.:frown: Remember though that when one opportunity does not work out another one appears. Good Luck to you on whatever is next!
