Still in the game

thank you Prepswimmom, That means a great deal to me! I cannot imagine doing this yet again, next year. if so, I will be right there with my DS supporting him, but will be happy to go thru the process again knowing I have some new forum friends who will be sharing the experience!

MiddyB, I contacted one of my senator's and my congressman's offices just last week and they said the same as yours did, that they had not heard anything yet, so possibly there are a few slates that are being finalized.

I'm not a USNA applicant, but still on the waiting game for USMA and USAFA. The encouragement in this thread goes for more than just Annapolis, but all the service academies alike. I've been stalking for quite some time, and I believe your 100 page milestone is a good time to give my $0.02. So, thank you everyone! Praying for good news and BFE's for all of your sons and daughters who are "still in the game" and best wishes to those following plan Bs.

I wish the best to those in the TWE club for this year. I just want to say that DS is a current Plebe and several of his Plebe buddies from his Company are in the reapply club. Several others went to NAPS. I know another young man that didn't apply, joined NROTC without a scholarship instead, and as is loving it. Another friend's son who didn't get in last year has decided to major in Aeronautical Engineering and Physics and started out with a 4.0 his first semester. He is not reapplying, not looking back but focusing on what's ahead.

So I pray for you and your plan B's, C's, D's and possible reapplications for next year. Push to be the best you can be and don't give up on your dreams.

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Saturday and Monday were very sobering with the TWE's. Called MOC last week to see if they had heard anything and got the same answer as everyone else that they had heard nothing much from USNA for awhile. My call did spark curiosity in the MOC's aid though and he promised he would call USNA admissions this week and see if he could find anything out.

Promise kept as I recieved a call bright and early monday morning. MOC aid stated that admissions sent him a reply explaining that budget cuts and reduced class size had obviously created a few less appointments but said specifically that DS was on the waitlist. Still in the Game for a little while longer. Call MOC and push a little. In my case the aid was as curious as I was. You never know.

At least you are still in the game! Pulling for your DS.

Question: for those whom have called MOC...did your DS or DD call or did you call? My DS is out of the house by 6 am for drill and not home till about 545 pm after practice. I would call for him but not sure if I should do it for him...suggestions?

Lofgren6,

give your DS's schedule, I would say it's perfectly acceptable for you to call & inquire on his behalf.

I called our MOC yesterday on behalf of my DS as we have not heard anything and the suspense was affecting his vacation.

The office stated that they check in with Admissions every Thursday and there was no news regarding my DS.
I was told by the aide that in his experience this may be a good thing.

We shall see...

My DS has a similar schedule. I called and talked to the staff member who handles SA applications. She was very nice about me calling but had no information she could share with me. I had the feeling she knew more than she could share with me, and that was a little discouraging. I regret having made the call because it's been hard to maintain optimism about USNA since then. We are in a highly competitive area, so I'm thinking DS did not make it at the top of either nom slate he was on and is on the NWL. Patience seems to be the order of the day for those still in the game. Good news from backups has helped with the mood around here. Best to all still waiting, to those with BFEs, and to those moving on with a TWE.

To those with TWE

I have been watching this thread everyday and hoping that we would be celebrating good news, unfortunately that has not been the case. To say that they " all end up in the place they were meant to be" is no comfort to the child or parent in this situation .

I think , as a parent, all that can be done is to comfort them and help them to see the future in a different light. My husband has a client that tried 3 times to get into West Point and he finally succeeded. He does not regret it for one day .... and I think there a lot of stories like that on this forum as well.

I wish everyone the best in whatever path they choose.... and I wish the moms all the best as they guide their children during these times. One of the hardest things as a mother is to see your child disappointed and know that there is nothing we can do to help.

Well, DS's TWE (noted receipt in a prior post) was dated 03/18/2014 and he received it on 03/24/2014. Plan B is now a no-go, but Plan C is on and looks good, USAFROTC scholarship plus enough to make it a full ride. All that bragging said, DS will be calling his admissions counselor at USNA to find out where his package fell short and plans to reapply next year for class of 2019and USAFA as well. Maybe all the reapplying families can compare notes on the reasons for not gaining appointments and we can all meet up in Annapolis next summer. If you are still in, good luck. If you are out, make sure to let your DS/DD know they are more than worthy of an appointment, its not the end of the world and to use the hard work that got them this far to succeed wherever their path leads them.

Our TWE dates were the same, Hopeful dad.

I like the idea of sharing areas for improvement of files - that type of info can be helpful not only to those reapplying, but also might be useful for new applicants.

Prepswimmom, want to start that thread on Apr. 15th?

Best quote ever!

Moving on and focusing on Plan B doesn't mean we have given up on USNA. Just being a realist with looming deadlines from other colleges. Happy to say that DS is getting really excited about other plans. The waiting is inspiring some soul searching. Whatever he decides, he will succeed. USNA was just one path for him to follow and if it's not meant to be then we embrace the other path.

Good luck to all.

From a post on the USNA Admissions Facebook page... Name removed. Bolded on the part we all want to know.

Hi xxxx, all students will be notified of their status by April 15 via mail. Appointments are still going out.

I like your thinking! DS is starting new app on April 1 and calling after the 15th to see where he fell short - although we think we know the answer - MATH MATH MATH!!!! He's good at it but not USNA great. He is trying to move on with Plan B- excellent choices - one has NROTC, one does not. Both have great academic scholarships and the NROTC school accepted him into the honors program. Visiting both for accepted students days in the next 2 weeks to see which fits best. OCS could be an option to keep in the back of his mind if all else fails. His heart is still in Annapolis though. He wants to graduate from Navy more than anything. Maybe if we all band together they can all get in the class of 2019. Such great kids for so few spaces.....
