Still in the game

Only a coupon for Me's Warehouse in the mail today. Anyone need $40 off a tux for prom?

Sorry Prepswimmom, yes I suppose current and past parents and mids are jumping on you. That happens on this forum and I hate it when it happens to me too. It has happens to me frequently and it bums me out.

The problems with your statement were plentiful....
1. though it may not have been your intent it was perceived (at least by me if I am being honest) to have a ring of sour grapes
2. no one really bought into the idea that a person left because that were "unaware of a service commitment"
3. Nobody "ran from the yard"
4. if someone did "run from the yard" parents of midshipmen would all understand why and just be grateful ours didnt, not judge them for doing so or post it in a derogatory manner.

I hope your DS will be in the class of 2019 and my reasons will make more sense to you then. Good luck to your DS.

NO SOUR GRAPES. JUST REITERATED A STORY TOLD ME LAST NIGHT BY AN OLD AND DEAR FRIEND. DID I FIND IT SHOCKING, YES. BUT THAT IS A FAR CRY FROM SOUR GRAPES. USNA IS THE ONLY SCHOOL MY DS WANTED BUT THANKFULLY THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT REJECTED HIM SO HE HAS GREAT CHOICES. AS NONE OF YOU ACTUALLY KNOW ME I WOULD SUGGEST YOU REFRAIN FROM JUDGING ME FROM A FEW RANDOM POSTS.

Any Xanax or Tums coupons? There might be a response to those coupons.

No USNA mail here (NE OK) today either. Just touched base with DS who defuses the mailbox everyday.

There is nothing worse than seeing your child disappointed and not being able to make it better. That is what we as mothers have been doing for most of their lives. I have had times when I have felt nauseous when one of my kids has been hugely disappointed.

But having said that , I have learned a lot from my children . One of which is that they are much more resilient than I am . They realize that this is a marathon and not a sprint.

Best of luck to everyone !:thumb:

no mail here - wondering if we are still actually alive in the game or if we just aren't aware yet that we aren't playing anymore!

That thought has crossed my mind a few times!

Rudyinok, I think a lot of us are wondering that very thing! No USNA mail here in So CA.

Maybe it is time for you to reflect on whether the application to USNA was for your DS or for you. Obviously you are not letting go the fact a TWE was received. You should let DS make his own choice for school.
Facts are there were two candidates who did not take the oath on I-Day but no one ran away crying.

USNA17DAD, even though the vast majority agree with you, I knew once you posted your comments that you had unfortunatley poked the bear.

Vista 123 made the best comments but Prepswimmom refuses to accept them.

AS NONE OF YOU ACTUALLY KNOW ME I WOULD SUGGEST YOU REFRAIN FROM JUDGING ME FROM A FEW RANDOM POSTS.

No one is judging you for a few random posts. we are upset because you actually disparaged an entire group and one specific kid who you actually said your son was more qualified than WHEN YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HIM OR WHAT HIS PACKET LOOKED LIKE. You have struck a chord with a lot of people and they are fighting back.

Everytime you respond defensively and negatively I just shake my head and say this poor lady is just so burned out which is understandable but please take a break.

Unfortunatley I know the wrath is coming.

I found your comment to be mean-spirited, presumptuous, and uncalled for, and it really had no bearing on whether the I-day story was accurate or not.

I do believe that time heals, and perhaps at this point, emotions are still a bit raw. I would say that it is not only understandable, but probably to be expected. Most kids (and parents) have way more invested in this process than any other application out there, and it takes some time to regroup. Have some compassion.

If you are referring to the basketball player I referenced from a national publication with his stats printed in the magazine my sons were better. And that is a fact.

Yes, that is Midshipmen I was referring to, but your original post stated that your son was more qualified than him not just that his raw stats were better. As everyone on this forum knows the SAT/ACT, GPA and class rank are only a fraction of what it takes to get into the Naval Academy. Remember that it's a small world and if your DS is lucky enough one day he could be mentored by this kid at USNA. Wouldn't that be something.

still waiting..

I am new to this. But no that I have figured out what all the BWE and TWEs mean, I can say we are still not so patiently waiting in MO...but I keep thinking no new is good news for DS

-No TWE or BFE in our CT mailbox.
-I like Bob the Mailman, he's got spunk!
-We're now also waiting on a STEM response for youngest son...
-I've heard of those Men's Wearhouse $40 tux coupons and I'm glad to hear that they exist.
-This is a painful process and I think we are all just trying to make sense of it so let's not turn on each other.
-This thread started with sharing information and support and I would love to see it return to that!

Whoa, whoa, whoa just clam the heck down people, Prepswimmom has been a great supporter, just leave her alone already or maybe Bob the crazy mailman will be on you. We all know that it hurts like hell when your kid works so hard and gets turned away. These are great lessons for our kids. Sometimes life is not fair, sometimes you don't get what you want, sometimes things are just plain f'd up, they need to learn to deal and so do we. College admissions do not make sense and it seems the SA's are even more of a mystery. My kid got rejected from his two top choices and ALL, yes all, of his "safety" schools, yet his plan "B" schools all accepted him. His counselor, his teachers, all who know him are shocked that every single state school he applied to rejected him... Okay, it happened. Now he moves on. As I always tell my kids, the school you decide to go to is not as important as other important life choice; who you marry & how you live your life, are much more important to your happiness and success. A student makes what they will out of whatever school they go to. You can choose to succeed anywhere.
NOW PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME YOU GOT A BFE!!!! Margaritas anyone?

:smile:Sportsmom, yay, glad the mailbox was not evil for you today

"This is a painful process and I think we are all just trying to make sense of it so let's not turn on each other." Yes. Let's have some understanding all around. Sometimes friends just need to vent, or share frustration. They're not necessarily trying to make a pronouncement. Sometimes words should just be let go - many of us type A's often feel the need to correct to a nicety, but sometimes it's just not necessary.

Relax, everyone. Good luck at the mailboxes tomorrow :thumb:
