Had a lot of posts to catch up on. First, a great big congratulations to Beaz and gavivane.... and then there's curry. Holie molie, were rooting for you, I just can't believe the wait they are making you endure. Can't wait to hear about the BFE that BETTER come this week.
On another note, thanks for the laughs & support everyone. My family teases me about staying on this forum, but it truly is like a book you can't put down. Best wishes to all as we move forward. My DS will not be re-applying. He has decided on USC's Freshman year in Paris program. He is looking into NROTC for Sophomore year at USC. Just putting our trust in God. Cheers!

Freshman year in Paris? Sheesh, I was born 25 years too early! Sounds like a fantastic plan.

That's an excellent way to describe it. A book you can't put down. I have to see how the story ends for all my friends!

Congrats to those heading to NAPS and best wishes to Currey still waiting!
Can't help it, have to keep checking in on everyone. DS is psyched for ND in August..he has NROTC but hasn't accepted yet as he struggles with decisions re: his future...worried about the path to medical school. The original game plan was to work his tail off and try and go premed at USNA...
Good luck to everyone...pretty sure we are a group of moms who would have a great time chatting over some wine..enjoy the end of senior year everyone. They will be gone before we blink.

I keep turning back to the forum to check in when I have nothing to report. Planning to go check out material Sciences program at University of Washington later this week. He has to narrow his choices.

Add the other dilemma, the unspoken challenge. He is a RA and if he does not get in this year he intends to apply next year. As he has been dealing with his backups it has always been that Navy is #1 and he turned down early action for schools because Navy is his number one.

DS has been down right frank with the other coaches as this is how he would wish others to be with him and how he chooses to be. He has told coaches that if he does not get into Navy and chooses their school, he would compete for them, but the request has been put to DS that if he does not get in this year that he not compete at the 4 year he attends so that he would not have to be redshirted a year if he gains admission next year. This places DS in a bit of a pickle as he feels that he would be backing out of a commitment to the other coaches and programs.

I know some here have a problem with RA process, and DS is not in a high value sport. He has chosen to add this challenge to the process, just like he is adding NROTC along with a D1 sport which is not a easy path at a college either.

The things I ponder upon as we wait... feel free to chime in. I have opened the gates and am prepared to be trod upon

Wow Currey. That is quite the tangled web for your DS. What a predicament. The RA can't get him in? I feel so sorry for him. I hope he gets in.

The RA does not just "get you in". It does indicate the sport and that the coach would really like the candidate, but you still have to go through all of the hoops. We live in a highly competitive area in a highly competitive state. Just the tangled web that we are in.

Gotta love my kid and his true moral compass. That kid will stick to his word come hell or high water :)

Who know where he will land, but we will see.

I have known kids recruited by navy and as long as they filled everything out passed physical and got nom they were in. Coaches have pull in admissions. But your son sounds like just one amazing young man. I am hoping for good things for him. Hang in there. Where do you live?

Currey, your DS sounds like an exceptional young man.

It sounds like what he's being asked to do isn't quite right. I know nothing about RAs, but doesn't sound right to me.

And doesn't he have a deadline for the other schools, too?

Wow, I just really feel for you all. You're right -- it's quite a pickle!

We are in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. With the draw down and really competitive year, it has been a challenge for all. We have to deadline for other schools of May 1st, so this is going to be fun.

I know that the pull might be relative to the sport and my DS is definitely not a lowball candidate, so I just have to wait to see where the chips fall.

Well I do think of you everyday and hope for good things no matter where that may be. But I hope it's Navy.

Aww, well thanks. I just have to remember that no matter where he goes, it still will be Navy.

Currey, really hoping here for a clear path for your son.

"Gotta love my kid and his true moral compass. That kid will stick to his word come hell or high water :)"

That is something to be really proud of. Fingers crossed for you, for a quick, clear answer.

God bless.

Wompwomp, freshman year in Paris! How, as a mom, do you prepare for that? What an adventure! That is a super quick way to grow up! Good luck with that!

Curry, wish your son all the best! They are probably waiting on some others' May 1st decisions, so your son sits on the bubble. Very very cool to get the call, even if it's a late one. DS #2 would die to play one of his sports in college, after 15 years in a sport, college is the culmination of all that hard work, especially when you add in the honor of all that is a military academy. Saying an extra prayer for you guys.

@ Currey

Wondering who asked your son not to compete his freshman year at another college if he does not get into Navy but gets in the next year?

Since I am very familiar with the sport your son does ( rowing) I am perplexed as to why they would ask such a thing. You and I both know that to take a full year off would be detrimental to his development as a rower. I wish you the best of luck ... it sounds like a difficult situation. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he gets the BFE and all this other nonsense can be "put to bed"!!

Another question to ask the "powers that be" is that since mens college rowing is not sanctioned by the NCAA why would he need to take a year off ?
