Does anyone know if 3 year advance designee scholarship winners receive a stipend during freshman year? I was under the impression that the answer was no but the letter from my Prof. of MS says that any cadet who makes a commitment to the army will begin receiving the stipend. I am a little confused.

I'm sure the "Commitment" the PMS is talking about is the signing of the contract.

3 yr AD Scholarship awardees do not contract until the start of their sophomore year unless they have their scholarships upgraded during their freshman year.

You do not start receiving the Stipend until you contract. If you are a 3 yr AD Scholarship awardee, you will not receive any stipend until you contract.

I believe they are talking about cadets who have contracted. The earliest you could contract would be your sophomore year. However, if you end up, say, getting an additional half-year scholarship by being awarded a campus-based scholarship, you would start receiving your stipend as soon as you've passed the APFT.

Exactly, try as hard as you can to upgrade to a 3.5 or 4 year scholarship.
