Stopped in their tracks: US Army fails to make top 3 in NATO tank challenge

I'm just here for the popcorn. It's fun to watch, although sad because I'm on this forum to learn about the service academies/military life. I get my news elsewhere. Get my political beliefs elsewhere too.

The BBC just reported that Mullah Akhtar Mansour, leader of the Afghan Taliban, is believed to have been killed in a U.S. airstrike.

His last words were: "Atrophy? Atrophy, my ass!"

Take a close look. Here's the F-35 gem that did the job.

The only thing missing is the pretty expensive stenciling -that might cost a few Million per copy-work order still in process.

Last time I checked, there is nothing romantic or honorable about fighting a war.

For any kids thinking about joining the military for accolades, parades, benefits, and etc, you might get them or might not. The reality is somewhere along the chain of command, starting from the President to your immediate leader are going to make some decisions on how much your life is worth and take corresponding actions. Some leader makes a decision that it's too dangerous for helicopter pilot to conduct a close air support of an infantry platoon in contact. Is he or she saying one life has move value than than other lives? Perhaps. President Obama thought Bergdahl' live was worth five terrorists. Someone thought Private Lynch's life was worth more than one live to send in a rescue party. So if we have the best equipment, best training, or best leadership are made by someone along the chain of command. But one sure thing is this country will do everything it can, for whatever reason good or bad or practical, that the military will have the best of the best.

Sorry I missed this thread.

Our crews smoked the gunnery portion of the NATO challenge. The competition evaluated the gunnery portion equally with the maneuver, skills and fitness portions of the competition.

I think this competition says more about our allies recent return to focusing on mounted and armored training then it does about our current defense budgeting process/priorities.

For the Benning competition, the Active duty crews competed well, the National Guard crew was just really good, to their and their unit's credit. It doesn't diminish the active component's performance though.
