Strictness of Word Count

I agree with jaglvr regarding copy and paste into the ap.

JMPO, the last I knew character includes spaces because a space is a character. It would be different if you said word count, in that case the spaces would not count.

Many word processing applications add extra hidden characters or extended character set characters into documents. I found that if we cut/paste the text into Nextpad (Windows) and then cut/paste from Notepad into the app we ended up with "cleaner" text. In either case, make sure you check the app for non-standard characters, line breaks, etc.

Future Jarhead: You’ll find that the counting formulas are a bit different across various applications, whether it be academy, civilian school (you’re working on Plan B, right?), ROTC and nominations. Sometimes word, sometimes character, sometimes spaces, sometimes not. Don’t waste anymore time worrying about that.

Follow the advice you got here. Write your essay in a doc program, such as MS Word. Get it to the required count, then copy-and-paste into the application itself. If the count remains correct, your done. If you’re over (it happens), then make minor adjustments directly on the application until you’ve met the requirement. Takes a bit of work, but c’est la vie. Done!

Again, thanks everyone, and just to clarify, in the app, it will automatically cut off at the character count?

At some point, real jarheads just GO! Learn by doing.

Good lord! I don't mean to be rude, but how many times does this have to be said in this thread? The answer is yes.

future Jarhead,

I say this with kindness, but it seems to me you are trying to find a way, every which way from Sunday to validate why you do not need to re-edit your essay because you are not reading the answer you want to see from the posters.

Here is my suggestion. EDIT and get it down to 2500 characters, with or without spaces, stop trying to find loopholes.

You were given great advice earlier, you should be able to do it in 2500. Quality matters more than quantity.

I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for your desire to serve, but at this point I am out of here because it appears you do not want to follow the advice given by multiple posters, multiple times.
