Summer Seminar Acceptance

as of 1400 today, session three is filled, there are 45 slots for session two, and 30 for session one.

I spoke with one of the "individuals" that makes the selections and he said they're all reviewing every app...to make certain they choose wisely.

It'll take some time; AFA is NOT as fast as USMA in some instances...patience is required with USAFA in ALL things!

Trust me, I'm as anxious as you; I have 5 more candidates waiting to hear about summer seminar...

Thank you for responding to my son's question a couple of weeks ago. He is in school right now, but I wanted to jump on here to say he was accepted into USAFA session C yesterday. We are all very happy. He got the 8th slot before they were full. He also got accepted to NASS Session 3 which begins right after USAFA SS ends on June 17. We are thinking of sending him to both. The USMA SLS session he was accepted to is scheduled before he finishes his high school classes and exams, so that doesn't look like an option for him.

I'm sort of in your boat. I have also been accepted to USMA's SLS, and am waiting on USAFA. I would certainly go back and update your profile if you have any new information to place on it. Anything substantial makes it look even better! I talked to my ALO and he told me that he would be putting a bit about me sometime this week, which would incite USAFA to look at my application again. I would advise you to do the same, and contact your ALO to get to know you and write a little about you and your potential on your app. I'm from PA, however, and still have not heard. Good luck to you!
Hi, Thanks for the advice you gave my son. He did go back and update his information a couple of weeks ago and was accepted to Session C yesterday. Hooray!!!! He was also accepted to NASS, Session 3 and we are considering sending him to both. The USMA SLS session he was accepted to is scheduled before he finishes his high school exams, so I don't believe that one will be an option.

Thanks for the update--my DS has been waiting patiently but his application is still "under consideration." Unfortunately, Session C was the only one he could attend, because TX Boy's State overlaps the other two and selections for that haven't been finalized yet.

In comparison with others, my DS seemed pretty competitive with a good GPA (3.77), good SAT (1950-620/670/660), letters in three varsity sports, many ECs, etc., etc., etc. I'm trying not to read too much into it--guess that's just how it goes sometimes.

Anyone know if a session can "reopen" after it has been filled? Thanks.

Consider yourself lucky that your at least under consideration. My son registered in December and he is still

"Application submitted (your application has not yet been processed by USAFA)"

Session 3 already full and they haven't even looked at his yet.

eaglemom--sorry to hear that they apparently haven't even looked at his application yet. I'm not a genius, but this application process has me completely puzzled. I've read that SS is USAFA's chance to "promote" the opportunity to the student, rather than the student having to "promote" themeselves, so maybe there is another set of criteria for who they'd like to attend. (It would be nice if someone on the staff would enlighten us.) I know they're busy with appointments, but they could deconflict the SS application window so it doesn't coincide and compete for the time they need to spend elsewhere.

Keeping the faith and patience! Wishing you and your son good fortune, confident that all things happen for a reason.

You can still try for the Naval Academy one.

Last year DS's SS application was stuck for the longest time at the "under consideration" step. We became concerned as we saw a few of his friends who applied well after him being accepted. He is home schooled and we thought that perhaps that was an issue. After waiting for quite some time, HE contacted his ALO. It took a few calls before DS could speak with his ALO. The very next day after their phone conversation his status changed to accepted . . .

I'd have him call his ALO.(Not you, as bad as you want to, but let him take the lead and ownership of the process.)

My ALO began contacting me since I submitted my application. A few days after his second phone call to me, I was accepted. I think the ALO plays a part with SS acceptances.

I'm not quite so sure that it does navy2016, I think it's just more of a "get to know each other" kind of thing. But I do remember an hour long phone conversation with my ALO a week or so before seminar last year. (although this was after I was accepted)

Maybe contact from an ALO means you will be accepted soon?

Thanks all for your kind words of encouragment. As Raptordad said "all things happen for a reason" - God's time, God's way. My son has contacted his ALO several times and that last time was told that there was really nothing left to do but wait. His was sent up to the board for review...still nothing has changed. Oh well, everything happens for a reason.

He has a bright future regardless...best of luck and God Bless to all.

When I did the summer seminar, I applied relatively late and was put on a waiting list and I eventually was accepted. Other students who were accepted could turn down the offer or drop out of the session but other than that I'm not sure.

On this forum, DS is for Dear Son and DD is for Dear Daughter. Here is a list of the most commonly used acronyms, but others are used as well.

Welcome to the forum. Our family has found this to be THE resource for both ROTC as well as SA questions.

I just have a question. Do you think it would be in my sons best interest to contact his ALO and let him know that he has applied for summer seminar and is under consideration? He doesnt want to bother him, but I am thinking that this might be something important that he might need to know?

Absolutely. Your DS should contact his ALO to introduce himself and to let him or her know that they are interested in attending SS. This is not bothering the ALO. This is one of the purposes of the ALO position. They are intended to be the first contact point for SA candidates. However, keep in mind that most ALO's are volunteers that have full-time jobs as well. So sometimes it takes a while for them to respond. Our ALO is a UPS pilot and a State Representative in addition to being an ALO.

Thank you for this information.

summer seminar

Though the summer seminar is a good experience it is not a prerequisite to getting an appointment. My son applied to all the SA summer seminars (AFA,NA, MA) and only got accepted to NA and declined for other two. He got LOAs to all three. Even if don't get to go to SS keep plugging away.
