What constitutes a 'community organization?'

I've been a part of numerous organizations that, although connected to school, often involve working and interacting among the community, not just school. (For example, FBLA.)

If anyone has any insight on this, would appreciate your help & thanks for responding!

Ran into a few more troubles, should I be emailing someone from admissions for help or is asking on here okay?

'1) Academics - List any of the following high school courses you have taken and your grade for that course:

  • English 9, English 10, English 11
  • Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry
  • Physics
  • Chemistry'
On this section should I only be following these instructions and listing those classes, or can I list things like NHS, AP Tests, or other classes taken(such as Calculus and Pre-Calc)
Secondly, am I limited to only five bullet points? I've looked at past threads and the format seems to be different.

Any help is much appreciated.

My interpretation is that if you have taken any of the listed classes, then indicate so and report your grade, that is all.

Acceptance to summer seminar is not a golden ticket to the Academy once you go for your appointment. In fact, I'm fairly certain it has no bearing on your future application whatsoever (whether that is actually true is up to debate I am sure). Good luck.

When I applied, I only put down community organizations that are not connected to school in any way -- if they were, I just put them down as a school extracurriculars. For example, I'm in an organization that is basically FBLA for another career field, but since it's my school's chapter, I marked that down as a school extracurricular. However, I already had a pretty sufficient number of bullet points for those purely community oriented organizations, so I suppose I can't tell you if it'd be more advantageous for you to distribute something like FBLA to the community organizations section if you're short. Does it give you a place to specify what you did through certain clubs?

I believe you can add as many bullet points as you need as long as it stays under the character/word limit.

I would put down NHS as an extracurricular, unless you're implying that you have it as a class?

Do you know who your ALO is? It might be a good idea to get in contact with them! I asked my ALO quite a few questions when I was applying to SS, and it gave me a chance to introduce myself and show him that I was serious about attending the academies from early on.

I'm doing my application right now and I only listed the courses that they provided. I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to add any additional courses like PreCalc and Calc. Also, I am putting NHS and the AP tests I've taken in the extracurricular section.

For the community organization section, I'm only listing community service I completed outside of school.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the help.

I do know who my ALO is, I sent an email about a month or so ago introducing myself, and never heard back. Debating sending another or holding back so I don't come off as 'pushy.'

What extracurricular section are you referring to? Feel like I'm missing something.

My apologies. Ignore what I said about the "extracurricular section". I would just add NHS and AP tests to the academics section. Sorry about that, for some reason I just assumed that there was an extracurricular section.

That makes sense, but it doesn't say to list anything other than the classes that they say to list

My DS included NHS under leadership. It's one of the selection criteria.

Does anyone know if you give unweighted or weighted class rank? I'm assuming unweighted because the GPA is unweighted, but I wanted to check...

I would assume unweighted, but my school doesn't rank juniors so I couldn't put anything :/

According to my guidance counselor, my school doesn't have unweighted GPA. Should I try to contact admissions, calculate my unweighted gpa by myself, or enter in my weighted GPA?

I asked my school what I should do they said they could make my unweighted GPA and they did just ask they might be able to make on for you.

Hello, I have a similar question. I wanted to know if there was a place I could put National Honor Society along with 5's on certain AP exams? Just want to put my best foot forward, but there doesn't seem to be a place in the application to put down academic awards.
