Hello everyone. I am about to apply for the summer seminar and was wondering about a few of the qualifications. I have not yet taken the SAT and have not yet gotten my PSAT scores back. I have a 3.89 GPA on a 4.0 weighted scale, and I am very qualified in the areas of leadership and athletics. Will this complicate things that I don't have a PSAT score? And my school doesn't do unweighted GPAs, will this complicate things? Thanks!

Also, if there are any Virginian appointees who would be willing to answer a few questions for me, that would be nice. Thanks!

If I remember properly, you receive your PSAT scores in the December time frame. You can use those to complete your Summer Seminar Application, which I recall doesn't start until December.

As for the GPA, you shouldn't worry about it too much. If I recall, the Summer Seminar doesn't just select based on GPA/SAT scores; they turned down quite a few with 4.0s and 1400+ SAT scores last year. If your school doesn't do unweighted GPAs, I think it would be fine to just report what your school gives. Can't recall how the process went exactly, but if anyone else remembers more about the application, then I could possibly clarify.

I would say that leadership and XCA play a significant role for SS selection. Since you are solid in that area it will help you.

Side note: Take the SAT as soon as you can. That way you'll have the best chance to select your best section scores when time comes around to apply to USAFA.

Warrior do you run cross country? So many kids at my summer seminars ran cross country. My personal belief was that is was my high class rank 2/250 that got me into summer seminar. Most of the kids I talked to clobbered there ACT's and got 33's and up, mine is only around a 30, yet my ALO calls this a 'good score.' Summer Seminar selection is interesting. Sometimes they take a chance on peoples physical conditions in order to fill a demographic or because they had high scores or academic record. At USAFA I had a complete dud in my group that could hardly walk around the campus haha. If i were you I would work on extracurricular stuff, try to get leadership positions in your school/community. Also make sure you are taking the hardest classes possible. Also it is a must that you buy the Air Force Academy Candidate Book; Amazon it.

Yeah, it's tough to really tell who the academies are going to go with. My ACT score is only a 28 and I still got into USAFA SS and USMA SLS. It is my firm belief that my leadership experience through sports and a high class rank got me in. They look for a well rounded candidate!

There is also a LOT more to the application than GPA and test scores. Plenty of people who attended had 4.0s and 2000+ SAT scores, but there were also quite a few who did not. I also think where you live is a strong factor for summer seminar. I had a 28 ACT score too at that time, but I live in Alaska and got my acceptance by the end of December. Good Luck!
