SUNY Maritime

The mail just came and my DS received the letter from SUNY Maritime (dated 4/1) confirming that he has received a CAP scholarship.

Congrats!

Wow! Congrats! We are stalking the forum waiting for this kind of news...still no news here in SYR! Maybe Monday???? How wonderful! It is impossible to make final decisions without this information. Our DS wants to do AFROTC and has been awarded a scholarship, but it can't be used at Maritime for the major he wants. If offered the CAP or maximum new student scholarship it might sway him to Maritime! He would then go crosstown to do his ROTC. What a great blessing for your kid! Wonderful that the news if finally going out!

YAY, yay Dragon2017!!!! We haven't heard anything yet but so happy that you did!!

DS received letter about CAP later in the day too! We are going on the 14th - I just wish he had a chance to do the overnight

Bummer

DS got his financial aid letter from Maritime with no scholarships listed. Weird way to notify someone that they won't receive merit monies or CAP, but I think that is the end of the line for Maritime for us. Not a problem just back to plans A and B. Congrats to those of you who will be attending! My guess is our kiddo will be at OSU or SUNY Albany in the fall, finally eliminating some choices so the decision can be made.

Thanks! Did anyone else receive the SSOP letter? I think it looks interesting, DS doesn't say much about anything. I am asking his two younger brothers to pick their schools this weekend too so we can get it all over with at once. lol

Kevin received one too...but we haven't heard about CAP so assume that he didn't receive it. He has a 4 yr AROTC to Siena (and Siena will also pick up too and board:thumb:), and I still on hold at USMMA. He is leaning heavily toward Siena but wants to contact the school this afternoon about SSOP. I transferred my post 9/11 GI bill benefits to the kids so he has 2 years of that, which may impact this decision...

I can't type...room and board and he's still on hold at USMMA ...

Lots of good options

Congrats to Kevin. Are you going to open house at SUNY-M on Sunday? DS just got USMMA appt but I think SUNY will be plan B backup. We're so relieved!

SSOP

Hard to find clear info online so I will get my DS to call if he is interested as well. He also has all good options but must make a decision, especially if he needs to get his AFROTC scholarship converted by 5/31. He wants to study meteorology either way and it looks like there are opportunities for that through this program. I really think he sees himself AF though, so that will help him decide. Is it weird that our kids didn't get any merit, but were offered this? I get it about the CAP because there are few available. It's all good! Will Sunday be very different from the open house?

Don't Give Up Yet!

DS just got this email!

"The CAP scholarship review is still underway. Your information has been forwarded to the appropriate state official and I expect to hear back by the end of next week. Once I receive notice, I will call you so that you can have the information as soon as possible.

I have also forwarded your email to my colleague, Emily Gollop, who coordinates the New Student Scholarship."

This adds excitement to the mix.

Sounds like a good email. We also received the letter/package for ssop program at suny Maritime DS very interested. Hope to find out more at accepted students day. Still on "hold" at usmma.

SSOP

For the families who received an SSOP letter: Was the letter informational or was it an offer of an SSOP scholarship?

"You have been identified as a candidate of exceptional ability and potentially qualify to participate in the SSOP at Maritime"

It was an invitation to apply. I was thinking that part of it might be quicker for those that are already DoDMERB qualified. My son has completed that process through AFROTC.

He got it!

Our DS was notified today that he did get the CAP scholarship! I hope he understands how fortunate he is to have this choice. He's ready to sign, we asked him to sleep on it. Tomorrow is the decision day I guess! I'm glad he waited to see all of his options.

Thank you

How did you or your child go about thanking the person responsible for nominating them for the scholarship. Obviously a written thank you note, is there anything else our DS should do?
