Where can I find the list of names that made this honor list?
I was able find Commandant’s list but nothing else.
I don’t want to ask my mid, but wanted to show aging grandparents their grandson’s accomplishments.
Thank you.

Oh ok. I see, thank you. I’ll have now ask my mid for a copy of the email that was sent then 🤣 anything to brighten aging grandparents whose health is quickly declining.

Yes, this kind of news can buoy the spirits of elderly loved ones. Just tell your mid to do what mine did: Called and said, "Grandma, I made the Dant's List." 😉

DD1 was not cooperative. Thankfully her bio on the team roster mentioned how many times she made Sup's list. At least through 2nd class year.

Alternative information sources for the win!

I am frankly surprised that they still have a link to the Dant's list. Listing the names of Midshipmen isn't a really good OPSEC move, in my opinion.
Agree. And WHY post one, and not the other? What is the reasoning behind posting a link to one list?

I agree that none should be linked. Kind of strange if you think about it. OOSEC and all.

I had the same question. I saw the Dant's list, but had to ask my mid about the Supes list. Great question about posting one and not the other. Curious myself.

I was thinking of when they move the Midshipmen en masse, they treat them as a national security asset and close the highway on the way to and from an event. If they go to that sort of trouble, listing names of Midshipmen in a public online link seems like a dumb move. The sports roster is a really good point I had not considered. Thanks, @brewmeist.

I had assumed that they stopped reporting the Dean's List and Supe's List in the past because of OpSec, but publishing the Dant's list has me befuddled. Maybe the answer is that nobody realizes that the website is wrong or not updated. Maybe it's that simple. Human error.

OpSec for Academy athletes is an impossibility. Unless you don't post box scores of contests, don't televise games and talk about the athletes, don't announce star recruits, etc.

On the non-athletic side, OpSec for Mids is also silly. Hell, they televise ship assignment!

There is OpSec and promotion/plubicity. One will always trump the other just depending on who decides which is more important at the time. It likely switches every few years. "Protect the OpSec of Mids, except when it looks good for USNA. Then show the names and stats". :D :D :D

Seems to me that this is simply an issue of "right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing." Also an issue of "we have many priorities at USNA, and fixing this inconsistency is not high on the list." Given all that's entailed in teaching, training, housing, feeding and caring for 4400 mids, I'm OK with those explanations. 😉 If the mid knows they're on the list, and they see fit to tell their parents, good enough for me.

Well, then, the Supes list look good for USNA.

Also befuddled. Still.

Although it is interesting that the supe's list used to be published, then someone made the point of ending the practice.

Obviously rosters and stats need to be published for athletics. But I gotta admit... I would pay top dollar to be able to see Chet's face in person if he was ever told it needed to be stopped!

Supe's list seems to have changed a lot. When I last saw it published, bout 1/3 of each class (~33%) was on the list. In my day, very, very few mids were on Supe's List. The primary "impediment" was grades. Almost no one had a 3.4. If you had a 3.2, you were in the top 15% of the class. 3.4 was definitely top 10% and probably closer to top 5%.

Getting a B or better in PE also knocked out a lot of contenders. It wasn't just the PRT. You had to do well in swimming one semester, in gymnastics (challenge for most guys) another semester, boxing / wresting (guys only in those days) another semester. Even those who were fit might not excel in some of these areas.

A in conduct wasn't usually a challenge for those who made the cut physically and academically. In the end, maybe 1-2 mids per class, per company "wore stars" -- so maybe 4-8 total mids per company. It was a big deal but no one talked about it. Everyone knew who those guys and gals were b/c they usually were also "mega-stripers." And if you rated stars, you. were expected to wear them, as a mandatory uniform item.

There may have been a Dant's list. Don't know. It certainly was not a big deal and I don't know anyone who ever wore any type of uniform device (e.g., star) to denote this.

Wearing stars was considered uber nerdy when my DS was there. He rated them every semester and never once wore them.

This is clearly a hot item of interest in parent circles but there is absolute silence among alumni and curiously among alumni parents. I think that just between my company classmates and my varsity teammates, I can easily name ten alumni parents of more than a dozen grads and none of them seem concerned about this.
FWIW, SonOfOldRetSWO also did not wear his stars but he did wear my nametags on a couple of occasions.
