SWO Ship Selection

Posted Question: Based on 2020 (and I think prior years) Ship Selection should be nearing. Does anyone know when its on the schedule, and if it will be in person or virtual (like the NROTC folks) this year?

Next Thursday night - Feb 4, 2021

I like service selection when they shave the heads of the Marine seedlings.

Thanks for posting the update for this year's event. I have to say, this is my absolute favorite service academy event! A coworker told me about it after his DS made a selection and I stumbled upon a video. I honestly think every single job should be picked like this and covered like this by the school and the branch. It is like the NFL draft and so exciting. Today, USAFA cadets send in a wish list and leave it up to personnel and the NEEDS OF THE AIR FORCE to decide their fate. For me, Air Force Specialty Code selection was like USNA SWO selection and based on Overall Order of Merit. We walked into an auditorium and all of the non-rated jobs were on the board. We selected the one we wanted, and the numbers on the board updated.

In that moment, you feel the weight of what you had accomplished in the prior 4 years. Those in front of you in line had done more. Those behind you had done less. It was the true meritocracy I was seeking and nothing else professionally has lived up to that experience.

Like how we selected UPT slots. You went into one of the big blue bedrooms...and when your number came up, you had your pick of whatever was left.
