Woke up today to a TD :(. Just confused about why they would initiate the waiver process and have the waiver granted (within the last 8 hours) but turn me down.

What??? Oh no!! Maybe reach out to your AO to inquire? I was sooo hopeful for you!! They have made a few mistakes recently so maybe worth asking!

My guess, is that it’s a timing issue. You were in the actual waiver process…your file physically being worked through, probably at the final determination stage. Whilst noms and appointments, separately but in parallel, is finalizing the class puzzle. This is an example of the multifaceted process that exists. And its challenges.

All waivers required, cannot wait until all appointments are offered. And all appointments that are to be offered, cannot wait until all waivers are processed. Separated but parallel.

The good news is that your DODMERB is valid for two years. If you reapply, with the same medical history, you’ve got your waiver (my under is that they, too are valid if no changes) under your belt. Or at least know it’s waiverable.

What @justdoit19 said. Waiver review is initiated by Admissions for competitive candidates and it gets sent over to the medical side of the house. Medical will decide if you are admissible from a medical standpoint only. In other words, a waiver just tells Admissions you are medically qualified. Admissions holds onto the appointment decision. Just like Admissions isn't qualified to make medical decisions, Medical isn't qualified to make appointment decisions.

My kid's waiver carried through from the first cycle to the next for the one issue. Unfortunately, as seemed to be the case with ALL of the stuff my kid had to deal with to get in, he got whacked with another DQ a few weeks before the '26 purge as a result of his file being reviewed for his NROTC scholarship, which we had to rush to get AMI and testing from a cardiologist to get him cleared.

99% sure that is why he got waitlisted in that cycle. Once we sent everything in, they processed the waiver and he got pulled off the waitlist in early May.

It sucks, and it stings. But, at least you know that the Academy will waive the DQ.

What mistakes, I doubt they will change a TD to a prep school offer.
Last week, in an apparent batch error, the Admissions system entered turndowns into some candidate records. There was a pullback and system correction, and “pending” returned. One of those forehead-smacking automated CRM system errors that was likely due to one human missing a field/filter parameter. I am sure they were not happy it happened, especially at this tense time in the cycle.
