Today C/O 27 received full carry-on privileges. I can hardly believe that my DD's 4/c year is rapidly coming to a close. I know this time last year, I was buying socks, sports bras and t-shirts for swab summer, and worrying about so many crazy details. In the long run, it truly all worked out, and for all of you in the situation now that I was in last year, just breathe. If you have a passport, have done fingerprints and background, and follow the packing list to the virtual; letter, then you have set you swab up for as much success as you can. The rest is up to them Trust the process! Make sure you follow pduddy pics on fb so you can play where's waldo all through swab summer! Congratulations to the C/O of 28!

@TriMom64 Perfectly stated! This last year has disappeared in the blink of an eye! Receiving carry on today is about the last major milestone of 4/c year and it’s hard to believe it’s coming to an end.

And now, watching the Class of 2028 appointees and parents about to embark on the same journey is so exciting! For those of you in that proverbial boat, simply read everything, follow instructions, stay calm, and yes- BREATHE!! It’ll all work out!

Congratulation to the Class of 2028! As my daughter says, because of you, her class won’t be the bottom of the barrel anymore!! 😂

Can't wait to get more information from the Academy so we can start getting things in order! We got a passport but don't know about much else that is needed yet. Fingerprints and background? And what are carry on privileges? :) So relieved to hear your cadets are thriving!

Here's a link to the incoming class portal. It's still for 2027, but should update to 2028 within the next few weeks. However, not much is going to change from one class to the next. Pretty much everything you need to know is here.

The fingerprint and background check process is different (should be better) this year than in the past. Once accepting appointment, you should receive an email with more details on that.

Other than that, good idea for parents and appointees to click through all these links, read everything and become familiar. There's a cadet hand book as well as a parent handbook with lots of information.

Note: There's a link in this portal for enrollment forms. They don't send any forms in the mail or anything, so this is where you get them. You probably don't want to be too premature on completing these in case any of them change. However, I noticed on the hyperlinks to several forms, if you hove over the link, you'll see it says 2028. This should indicate the form has been updated for the current year. Also note, if this year is like last year, this portal changed over to 2028 without any sort of notification.

Lastly, I'd strongly suggest joining the Facebook groups for 2028 parents and appointees. You will all get to know each other quickly and can share information throughout the enrollment period and into swab summer. It's extremely helpful!!

Also - Regarding Carry On privileges....after the summer when swabs become 4/c cadets, they have a variety of rules/traditions/restrictions to follow. These things include eating meals in the wardroom braced up in their chair staring straight ahead not being able to talk to their classmates, walking in Chase Hall with eyes in the boat, squaring corners, etc. Performing clocks in the Chase Hall peaway. Marching in between classes in groups called "busses", the list goes on. Receiving carry on for 4/c means all these things go away and they receive the privileges of a 3/c cadet for the remainder of their 4/c year. It's a big deal for them!!

Thanks for this! I have been looking over this 2027 material but was worried something would change for 2028 and we'd miss something if we go forward with these. I noticed something for a cardiologist to fill out? Also seems many other medical providers need to fill out forms and it's already difficult getting timely appointments for providers so I hope they update these forms soon!

Oh my, sounds like being a 4c is quite a challenge! I can imagine how happy they are to return to somewhat more normal life.

The clinic will perform Cardiology and Dental screenings during in-processing (after you report to the Academy), so you just need to complete the history/patient information on each of these forms and return them via e-mail for review by their medical staff. You do not need to have a cardiology or dental evaluation prior to reporting-in. If you hover over the link for the Cardiology form, it says it's for 2028.

The swabs go through a full medical and dental screening during the first few days of swab summer and need to be cleared before engaging full blown PT activities.

The only thing you really need to do is schedule an appointment for immunizations. Again, hovering over the link, it also says 2028, so you should be good to go now. The academy recommends getting necessary immunizations 4 weeks prior to reporting to allow time for any sort of adverse effects. Be sure to review the form thoroughly after it's completed by your Dr. office. Make sure they followed instructions properly and signed it. You don't want to email it in only for the academy to find an error and then have to scramble to get it corrected.

Note: the Cardiology, Dental and Immunization forms are all emailed to the clinic email address listed on the form. These do not get mailed in with everything else.

Hope that helps!!

Oh wow, that really helps. I would have been trying to get a referral to a cardiologist. I've read everything and it was not really clear that is something that gets done at the Academy. What a relief.
