Can't wait to get more information from the Academy so we can start getting things in order! We got a passport but don't know about much else that is needed yet. Fingerprints and background? And what are carry on privileges?
So relieved to hear your cadets are thriving!
Here's a link to the incoming class portal. It's still for 2027, but should update to 2028 within the next few weeks. However, not much is going to change from one class to the next. Pretty much everything you need to know is here.
The fingerprint and background check process is different (should be better) this year than in the past. Once accepting appointment, you should receive an email with more details on that.
Other than that, good idea for parents and appointees to click through all these links, read everything and become familiar. There's a cadet hand book as well as a parent handbook with lots of information.
Note: There's a link in this portal for enrollment forms. They don't send any forms in the mail or anything, so this is where you get them. You probably don't want to be too premature on completing these in case any of them change. However, I noticed on the hyperlinks to several forms, if you hove over the link, you'll see it says 2028. This should indicate the form has been updated for the current year. Also note, if this year is like last year, this portal changed over to 2028 without any sort of notification.
Lastly, I'd strongly suggest joining the Facebook groups for 2028 parents and appointees. You will all get to know each other quickly and can share information throughout the enrollment period and into swab summer. It's extremely helpful!!
Also - Regarding Carry On privileges....after the summer when swabs become 4/c cadets, they have a variety of rules/traditions/restrictions to follow. These things include eating meals in the wardroom braced up in their chair staring straight ahead not being able to talk to their classmates, walking in Chase Hall with eyes in the boat, squaring corners, etc. Performing clocks in the Chase Hall peaway. Marching in between classes in groups called "busses", the list goes on. Receiving carry on for 4/c means all these things go away and they receive the privileges of a 3/c cadet for the remainder of their 4/c year. It's a big deal for them!!
Welcome to the Corps of Cadets! Congratulations on accepting your appointment and welcome to the Corps of Cadets! These pages contain the information you need to prepare to report to the Coast Guard Academy on Day One. Our goal is to help you and your parents make a smooth transition to college...
