Hi all! I completed and submitted my USNA application at the end of August and received a congressional nomination last week. My congressman just sends down ten names to the Academy...when is the earliest I would hear? I'm bracing myself to wait until April, but I'm not sure exactly how long the Academy takes to allocate appointments from congressional nominations. Does anyone have more insight? Thank you!

My app was complete November 11 except for the BGO interview which didn't register going in at first. The interview was then submitted December 1.

My MOC had his slate in November 2.

I received a call from my MOC December 15 congratulating me on my appointment.

Wishing you the best of luck! The waiting is the hardest part, isn't it?

I have a related question. Do principal nominations get looked at first? If so, what's the timing for that?

Folks, there are no good estimates on timing, even if designated a principal nominee. Your expectations should be set for April.

MOST candidates will be notified between February and April. (MOC's do have until January 31st to submit their nominations.... although many do so before hand, they have till then. Additionally, the application deadline for candidates isn't until that date either).

It isn't a matter of "how long the Academy takes to allocate appointments from congressional nominations" rather, it's when your completed file comes before the admissions board for review, whether you have a principal nomination or not.

I second what everyone else said so far. Enjoy your senior year and don't waste too much energy thinking about it. I tortured myself (twice through the process) thinking about it every day. Most people will hear in March or April.
