Those of Us Still Waiting

DD just received link in Bear's Den ...offered a place on the wait list. Not the exact answer we were waiting for, but definitely good news. Will take the wait list, with more waiting ahead. Best of luck to those still waiting. FYI... DD attended AIM, applied EA but was deferred to RA.

CGAS (the Coast Guard Academy Scholars program) is for sponsored cadets at any of their prep schools (MMI in AL, Georgia (tech?), NAPS, etc. Those cadets do not pay to attend, and basically have a golden ticket to the next class at CGA. Self prep is for students who desire to take the exact same classes that the 4C are taking their 1st year at CGA and try and reapply next year. That can be done at their local college, at one of the academy recognized prep colleges, etc., but it is on their own dime. As far as what the 1st year course load looks like, it's been posted several times, either here or on the Service Academy Prep forum. I don't remember enough of it to write it here.
Self prep students are in the same classes with the CGAS students at MMI.

Waitlisted! Fingers Crossed. Last year they took over 30 off the waitlist!
30 out of how many? 100? 150? At the cadet for a day, the admin person made it sound like they had really whittled down their wait list, so that more people from the wait list actually got an appointment. Was that bad information (or maybe just a bad take on my part).

DS received the waitlist letter for CGA Appointment in the last hour. He was also waitlisted for AIM last year, though ultimately not offered a spot. Did not apply EA.

Our Admissions Committee completed its review of all Regular Admission (RA) applicants on Friday and all decisions, that were not previously approved for release, are now being reviewed by the Superintendent. There are still both direct and Coast Guard Academy Scholar (CGAS) Program appointments pending release in addition to waitlist offers and denial letters. We understand that our review/selection process may not always be completed as quickly as applicants and/or their parents would like it to be, but when our application for the Class of 2024 opened on August 4, 2019, both our website and Applicant Handbook clearly stated that all RA decision letters would be published by April 1, 2020, and I'm happy to report we're still on track to do just that almost eight months and one global pandemic later. Thank you for your continued patience during what we know is an anxious/stressful time for everyone, including our own staff who are working remotely and facing the same daily challenges that all Americans are, and please feel free to contact your Admissions Officer on Thursday, April 2nd, if your RA decision letter has not been published to your Bears Den.
Do CGAS appointees get the opportunity to "move up" to a CGA appointment should last minute slots open up?

For those waitlisted:

This is advice from Bear's Day last year given by a cadet at the USCGA.

This cadet had been waitlisted but USCGA was his dream school so he decided to do whatever he could to get off the waitlist. He was in constant communication with his Admissions Officer (AO) and he gave his AO updates about anything he could to show interest. Clearly he got in (seeing as he was a cadet when I attended Bear's Day last year) and he said he believed it was due to constantly keeping in contact with his AO.

Obviously, I cannot guarantee that this will get anyone off the waitlist, but If the Coast Guard Academy is where you want to go to school, I truly believe that it is worth following the advice of this cadet to "bother" your AO with updates and express interest. I do not know how the CGA chooses people from the waitlist but demonstrated interest is an important factor in some college admission decisions—It could help you here.

For those who received a "no":

I'm sorry—I know that this is not the news anyone was hoping for :(

The bright side, however, is that a good amount of high school graduate (current college student) applicants were admitted to the class of 2024—especially those who participated in ROTC in college.

If you are hoping to apply the class of 2025, reapplication should hopefully increase your chances of admission!

Best of luck to everyone and I hope this helps!

Not sure. But I don't think it's too many since the class is only 265.
