I need advice from those who have done it.
My son got a three year offer to his top two schools. One school is an out of state school that will run him $25K per year OOS tuition. He has already received an acceptance letter from that school. The other school is an in-state school that he can afford (about $10K per year), but he hasn't received an acceptance as no notifications go out until late March. (He should be able to get into that in-state school too).
Since it's a three year offer, and because he is going to study Engineering (and it's likely he'll be in school for 5 years), he will have to pick up a year or two of the costs on his own.
And... Do I understand this correctly... do the three year AD scholarships kick in AFTER th Freshman year?
So, now the big question.... Does he take the scholarship to the expensive school to which he is already accepted, and if he gets accepted to the cheaper school, seek a transfer of the scholarship, or does he just risk it and take the scholarship to the cheaper school from the start?
My thoughts... and correct me if I'm wrong... Take the scholarship to the school to which you are already accepted, and if the cheaper school accepts you, request the transfer. I bet it's easier to get the Army to transfer the scholarship from a $25K tuition school to a $10K per year tuition school than the other way around.
What are your experiences with this issue?
