Travel time to DEN

Marciemi, you're right. We have to finish the tour or not go at all.

And I checked the old PW 2009 schedule and they don't seem to have any organized academy tour. You can attend classes with your cadet or eat lunch with them but no comprehensive tour like the one on Orientation. Maybe they'll have one this year.

As for rental car, the expresstoll website has some info in there for rental cars wherein some companies can charge you on a per day use of the toll roads. I think you just have to inform them in advance, so those using DEN can sign-up for two days max, one day going to the academy and another day going back.

I'm betting they won't give me that option. I only need one day since we'll actually be heading skiing when we arrive so wouldn't be taking it that day or (I don't think looking at the map) when we go from skiing down to COS. So it would just be due to the time crunch on the way back to the airport. But my thought is that they'll say "Sorry, your choices are 'do you want it - yes/no'?" and I'll have to pay the $33 weekly rate!

On the tour note, maybe I'm weird, but I'd much rather explore on my own during PW (or have my doolie show me around) than listen to a formal tour. I like the fact that that weekend you can actually go to class, and in the dorms, and the dining hall and all!

There is a fee for using the "ez pass" of the rental cars - at least there was for our rental car. We brought our own and saved the $3 or $4 - whatever it was. And the toll road was definitely faster in time.

Two hours minimum is what I would suggest.

What about snow? We were going to go to Denver but we reconsidered when someone pointed out that there could be snow. We are flying into COS.

LOL, don't worry about the snow. We had a storm last week which dropped an inch. This was the first snow in a MONTH. So unless a freak blizzard comes up, expect the weather to be sunny and in the sixties, maybe the seventies.

Also, anyone wanting to ski needs to really watch the snow reports. Most of the central and northern mountain resorts have barely any snow. They'll probably have to shut down most of the mountains in late March or early April. Hopefully there's some more snow, but don't count on it.
