US Marines vs Royal Marines training exercise

The USMC said, waaaait a minute.

“ ‘Winners’ are never determined,” Capt. Zachary Colvin, the communications and strategy director with the Marine Air Ground Combat Center, told Military Times in a statement.

In the article, Capt Zach is saying they only give participation awards in this training exercise? That's what I'd say if I got my clock cleaned. And I'm pretty sure those Royal Marines didn't keep quiet over pints of Guinness. How's that Kool-Aid taste?

No. It was neither Guinness nor Kool Aid. Along With their trophies, each participant got a juice box and box of crayons.

Do you know anything about this force-on-force exercise at 29 Palms other than what you read in British tabloids?

I do know I'm not the smartest guy in the room. And I do know something happened at 29 palms. Other than than, only what I read in the Tabloids.

I wrote the below on Saturday and DM'd it to forum members with similar interests. I was happy to play along with the comments and BS articles but the article posted by @unkown1961 allows me to speak up. Yes, I am guilty of drinking the kool aid concerning the USMC. Was stationed with them three times, six knee surgeries, and let them borrow my son. Speaking of, he is the S-3A, the assistant operations officer at TTECG, tactical training exercise control group at 29 Palms. He is also the officer who runs the exercise the articles claim were "won" by 40 Commando. This exercise had about 10,000 troops. The last one had over 18,000.

DS got a chance to text Saturday night and I asked about the article and he said: "The article was definitely not accurate. The Brits were attached to 2/5 and both were under the 7th Marine Regiment. Kind of weird how the US surrendered to a force that was on the same side."

I don't know about the veracity of the story but I can say (as a former Jarhead myself) that the Royal Marines are as good a light infantry force as any on the planet.

The Task & Purpose article was interesting but, as I say, I don't know the real story.
Given that, I'm not going to knock either the US Marines or Royal Marines. Person-for-person (years ago I would say "Man-for-Man"), they are among the best on earth.
Now waiting for some fan of the SAS or Israeli Sayeret or French Foreign Legion saying how they're the best.

Mrs. cb7893 said GROM is the best. And she’ll fight any man who says different.

My son texted me this Saturday night. He's the control officer for the exercise. He ran the thing. This is the real story.

A scrimage should identify weaknesses. In this case it we identified a bunch of big mouth Royal Marines.

US Marine units go to 29 Palms for pre-deployment training. The Brits are there (it's still in progress, ends this week) on deployment. They even gave their exercise a name. There are no winners or losers. Nobody surrenders. It might have been more believable if the Royal Marines were not attached to the unit that supposedly surrendered to them.
