Hi everyone,

I know that this happens all the time on this site, but I was wondering if I could get any insight on my chances of getting accepted into the Air Force Academy. I am a junior in high school and will start the application in March. I have wanted to attend the Academy ever since I was about 8 years old and this is what I am doing:

-4.0 unweighted G.P.A + 5 A.P classes
-Weighted G.P.A of 4.74
-I just took the December ACT and I had a tutor. I am expecting above a 32
-Football for 3 years (next year will be 4)
-Tennis for 3 years (next year will be 4)
-2 time debate state qualifier.
-2020 debate team captain.
-I am involved in an anti-suicide organization at my school where peer leaders promote good mental health to the student body.
-Member of the community service club at my school and next year I will be the president of the club.
-Leader of all high school volunteers at a senior citizens home with over 250 volunteer hours.
-I will be in both the National Honors Society and the Spanish National Honors Society next year.
-I will apply to Boys State and hopefully attend in this coming summer.
-I am in close contact with my ALO.

Any insight on my chances or advice on what to improve would be greatly appreciated!

Like thousands of other upcoming candidates, you are decently strong. That’s really the only thing many of us can tell you when it comes down to it.

It’s good that you are training. If I could offer you a piece of advice it would be to take a practice one ASAP to gage how well you fare with the endurance aspect of it.

Ok I will look into that. Thank you!

I agree with Flevvy. Your stats are good, but that's what they are, stats. There are so many other factors that go into the process (evaluations, essays, interview, etc) that it's hard (and probably not a good idea) for members of this forum to make a judgement. You're greatest insight will most likely come from your ALO, as they probably know you the best and are most in tune with the admissions process. Personally, as I went through the process, I started to get the impression that my ALO was fairly confident in me getting an appointment. Turns out he was right. Good luck to you!

That's excellent advice. My DS maxed the pushups, crunches, pullups. He was a full minute slower than expected on the distance run because of the other events. He said he was close to losing his lunch.

You should be training, training, training, throwing up, and then training some more. Run in the cold, in the heat, whenever. Preferably you should practice under "test day conditions."

Your profile looks outstanding.
I would also take the SAT in case you have better scores and will not submit immediately.
Tennis question... Do you play USTA and/or ITF tennis? If so, what's your UTR?
Have you thought of attending USAFA Preparatory? Info should be coming available next month, but with this booklet you can start working on many requirements NOW. https://www.usafa.edu/app/uploads/PL_2020_Appointee_Booklet.pdf

Attending the preparatory academy increases your chances dramatically. I would give it a try. Good luck!

-I have taken the SAT and I scored a 1350, but I think the ACT was an easier test for me to take so that's where I focused. However, if the scores from the last ACT I took, which will be available soon, are not very high I will focas on the SAT.
-I don't know if I play USTA or ITF tennis. I have played for my school since I was a freshman and I have never even heard of those.
-It looks like USAFA Preparatory is somewhere to go if you don't get an appointment to USAFA on your first try but plan to reapply. If I am wrong please let me know because it looks like an amazing place to be.

USAFA Prep School is not something that you can prepare yourself for entry as there are no special “requirements”. Offers of Prep come to those who applied to USAFA and admission felt needed an extra year to prepare for the Academy. There is no separate application process.
